Any chance of Porsche announcing a manual?

Hey all,

I want to trade in my 997tt for the new 991 turbo or turbo S.. (not sure if the S is worth it yet)

I have a 6 speed in my 997 and every time I drive it, im so happy that its a stick, and I feel that I will seriously miss that about this car.

My worst nightmare is buying the 991 turbo, spending 180k then in a year Porsche announcing that it will come out with a manual tranny option.

Is this at all possible?

Thanks!

Chris

go to your dealership to buy a 991 turbo, select all the option you want, the colors, spent time with the sale guys so he truely believe he got a sale.

then before you sign, review your oder, the options and then....

- "HOOO hold on, where is the trany option? I want it stick"
- sorry sir, turbo only comes PDK
- hum, that's a big issue to me, I really want it manual.

then walk away...

if his a good sale man, he will work at getting you the info for a stick trany..

I really doubt they will get him a stick turbo.

but been a salesman myself, I would defenetly call head office to get info and give feedback about the sale I just lost.

maybe salesman will get some extra info about turbo and stick...

or maybe he will work out a discount or anything

Well maybe we should start a poll. Will Porsche announce a MT for the GT3, GT3RS, TT, TTS in the future?

My guess is, you'll see a MT in those cars when Porsche makes another air cooled engine... or an hydraulic steering.

The real question is, will the 992 (or whatever they call the next generation) have a MT offered at all? Will the 982 (or whatever the next gen Boxster/Cayman is called) have a MT at all?

In fact by 2024, will there be any MT left? All brands included?

It's called progress. And this time, progress rhymes with scale production economy (ony one tranny to design/engineer instead of two) fuel economy AND better performance. Time is running out for MT, get them while you can.

Does this site have any insiders that can completely confirm this?

Jay Leno? lol

It is just the future. Porsche wants go fast. And you can't do it in a manual. Plus it is better for the customers. It makes the cars performance more reachable.

Manual

in 2010 they changed their minds but it seems more definite now. I really wish they would reconsider manual for the 991. Sent a letter to Porsche and got a one back about how great PDK is.

Have a 2014 C2S with manual September build coming soon. My family is upset cause I have some buyers remorse already. I really wanted a 991 turbo with a manual. Shopped used 997 TT but the 991 is a better car.

I even considered a Corvette ZR1 it just doesn't have the quality of a Porsche. Porsche will let you customize the heck out of the car but I don't understand this one. I would even pay more for a manual.

Same, I am about to order one! I seriously doubt that Porsche will release a 991 Turbo in manual.

I'm thinking about not buying a 991 GT3 because there is no manual. Once we hit Porsche's pockets they will agree with us.

I fear Porsche won't notice. For every I'm not buying the new 991 gt3/tt if it doesn't have a MT, there are probably two (or more) going yay, I can finally buy a PDK GT3/TT!

"It's called progress" LOL!!! hardly, and IMO That is flawed logic. If your logic was true the MT would have disappeared over 30 years ago. Truth is the DCT is dominating the current "performance" metrics, hence super car manufacturers are gravitating to them for now. But MT will come back the same way mechanical watches were once thought to be dinosaurs when the quartz movements became ubiquitous.

Quartz watches "perform" better, they keep more accurate time, run for years without needing to be set, adjust date automatically and even adjust for DST. Who would ever want a mechanical watch, right?

Guess what, nowadays mechanical watches dominate the high end market...

IMO we are going through a cycle where the insanely fast 0-60 times and improved lap times with DCT are dominating the discussion. But there will always be those of us who yearn for a more engaging experience with our machines. So With that in mind I believe a large enough market will exist, nay, demand a MT option and high end car manufacturers will come back to offering them as an option, even at a premium.

Quartz couldn't kill the "old school" mechanical movement, and I don't think DCT will kill the MT.
