458
458
not asking to repeat the question to compare the 2 cars..
but just wonder how you guys decided to buy a new 991tt rather than a slightly used 458.. they cost around the same... and a ferrari seems like a different level... is it mostly because the usability of the 991tt.. or other factors?

I have both cars. They are totally different. If I could only have one as my weekend car, it would be the 458. If I needed to drive it on a more regular basis, I go with the TTS. I've had my new TTS for 6 weeks and haven't driven the 458 since. I really love my Porsche. Now that it's tuned with GMG exhaust, it's an absolute monster and thrills my heart.
That being said, it's no 458 and never will be. Nothing has soul like a Ferrari!

It was a tough choice. There really is nothing quite like the beauty of a 458. For me it came down to:
- I wanted the whole family to be able to use the car (911 back seats work for kids)
- TTS has better performance
- The Porsche has more creature comforts
- The TTS is so much more practical (visibility, bumps, noise, storage, ride)
- The leather inside the 458 is pretty wonderful, but on the other hand you can really option up a 991 with some very nice leather & stitching packages to close the gap
- I wanted a new car, and to get the optioned 458 I could live w/ would have put me closer to 280k to 300k.

As a long time Porsche owner, I decided to try something different, which led to me to own 3 R8's (including the V10 Plus) over the past 4 years. Initially the public's response to the R8 was fun, but that soon wore thin. I grew tired of being followed, videoed, and approached every time I parked the car or filled up at a gas station. 458 would likely be worse.
After test driving a 458 and being very impressed, I started to look at pricing on the options sheet and soon found that a new 458 would cost me closer to $300K. And low mileage used 458's are still $75K more than I paid for my TT-S. I just couldn't see paying $250K for a 2 year old car that is at the end of its life cycle.
I wanted a car I could use everyday. The TT-S is more comfortable, practical and I believe, better built. I wanted a useable supercar, not a rolling piece of art and no interest in the Ferrari "lifestyle".
The 458, R8 V10 Plus and TT-S are all marvelous cars with different attributes - The 991 TT-S is the best car for me.

but does the safety factor ever come into your consideration? I know it's quite nonsense as the 991tt is a beast too and could be really dangerous.. but realistically, the 458 (as well as other F cars) seem more dangerous for its track performance, catches fire etc. that could be what makes people think it has soul..
and maintenance cost... ? also a factor... ?

Actually trading in my 458 for the new TTS. Performance the porsche wins hands down. It really comes down to what you're getting the car for if its a daily or a weekend driver. I already have the Aventador so I have my weekend car and needed more of a daily. While I could drive the 458 everyday as its an amazing car to drive the TTS just seems like a more well rounded car in terms of features and practicality. Plus with all of the attention the Aventador gets it's nice to sometimes blend in more which the TTS allows me to do.
So my suggestion is daily driver = TTS or for weekend car = 458

Drive both cars around a circuit and you will see the tts and the tt out perform it everywhere ..but it sure is pretty..think of it like a supermodel ..but will it make you breakfast in the morning?

(And I don't believe in the 'soul' thing. I DO believe that the 458 somehow eats asphalt is some way - I just can't prove it, yet)

BUT - there are some VERY decent used 458's (with low/no miles) for good prices.
I'd have no problem making my own toast or the the attention of the 458

I think you'd be surprised how many owners have both (I know a guy with a 2014 TTS and a 458 spider)
I think the two cars are completely different in a lot of ways and if you can afford the 458, you can get the TTS too, why choose?
Just my .02

I'm really itching to get a new TTS. Looked at all the exotic options (R8, F430, Lambo, etc) and with two little boys attached at the hip, the only option is the TTS with back seats. If I can't take them out with me on weekends, the car will not get used and then it's not worth for it to just sit around depreciating and collecting dust.
I thought the fires are gone.. Just saw local news like 2 months ago a ff burnt itself on the road, dealership explained ff not suitable to get stuck in traffic in hot weather... Oh well .. So what model year has this issue resolved?
I see far more Ferraris in the NYC 'burbs than R8s. Combine that with the Ironman "pull" and you have a car that generates alot of attention. BTW, the R8 - Ironman link was far more important than I ever thought - a brilliant marketing gimmick. Can't tell you how many people came up to me and told me that the R8 was their dream car after seeing Ironman.
Porsche may have Walter Rohrl shilling for them, but Audi has Robert Downey Jr.
As I've said, the current R8 is a fantastic car and I loved every minute in my spyders and coupes - hope the next generation R8 makes our car choices even harder.
