New 991 Turbo Coupe Build ... ?
New 991 Turbo Coupe Build ... ?
Too much stuff to go thru, but decided to get a new 991 Turbo Coupe.
I care for my 2009 Turbo Cab a great deal, but think I need to move along.
Originally, I tho't I would get a Turbo S coupe, but for the extra $30K of the build out, I think I'd be better off with the 'standard' Turbo. Spend the extra dough on aftermarket exhaust, wheels, yada, yada.
Tell me what you think of my initial build:
2Y Carrara metallic white
NE Espresso leather interior
498 Delete model # on rear (get rid of all the paragraph on the rear)
636 Front and rear park assist
651 Sliding metal sun roof
XRU 20" SC wheels in black (wish they were satin)
XFL Gauges in Luxor beige
EEJ Carbon Fiber interior package
XHL CF heated steering wheel
XHM Center Console trim in CF
Total of options and car sticker is ~ $162,500 with shipping
Yeah, I'd like different stitching and crests and belts in color, but what the hey?
What do you folks think?

Get the Premium Package - it will add ventilated seats and entry & drive to your heated seats and parking sensors. Well worth it.
Also PDLS headlights are worth it.
I would give up some of those carbon fiber add ons to get the options noted above. More useful, imho
I really like the carbon fiber interior. No fingerprints like the standard metal trim, looks very rich. It really makes a difference on the black interior, should look great in espresso as well.
I agree about sport chrono package, consider adding that.
I am a big fan of entry and drive, myself. If you have hot weather issues, you will LOVE ventilated seats, so these two options make the premium package a must for me.
The 991 is particularly gorgeous in white, so great choice, there.

Agree with the prior comments. Premium plus package, Sport chrono and PDLS or LED headlights would be things I would add.
Beige gauges are interesting. Would probably look great with your build but not my cup of tea - then again I prefer black gauges.

Certainly not the build the would do with but that is exactly the beauty of ordering your own car.
- SC a must (especially if you are buying)
- Vent seats are a must for me
- Although prob just easier to get premium package, I certainly don't need entry and drive but I would add rear camera to the parking sensors.
- I would prob do dials in white along with SC clock (but you need to add SC to do the latter). Certainly would not do dials in beige. Have never seen these but can't imagine I would do that.
- PDCC would be on my car
I could go on. Good luck.

I tend to agree with some of your posts. This is my 1st attempt of the build. I'm sure there will be more.
Yes ... I do like white Porsches. I've had 2 others. One coupe, one cab.
Beige dials seemed to be interesting with the espresso leather, but I've always had white dials.
Regarding Sport Chrono ... I have it on my '09 TT. Don't know why. I never use it. What's all the interest in SC?

-Dynamic engine mounts
-Overboost with increase in TQ.
-Sport plus = launch control
-If you want to sell people ain't buying if you don't have it.

I agree with you completely when you say you dont use SC so why get it. I have never launched a car....yet. I will definitely launch my TTS, though, and cannot wait to scare myself silly.
But there is just the thought of a Porsche 911 without SC that seems like it is just not complete. For that reason alone, which is a little irrational, I will never own a 911 without SC.

You've gotten some good advice so far, but here are my two pennies:
-- I 100% agree about the Sport Chrono Package. This is an absolute must-have (perhaps the *only* must-have) option on the Turbo.
-- I did not get the Premium Plus Package because I can't stand PED (had it on my '14 C4S, never again) and I was not impressed with the seat ventilation on my '14 C4S (I'd take it again but don't care much either way). I only wanted the reverse camera, which, most unfortunately, you can't order by itself. So, like you, I went with the rather inexpensive alternative of front/rear park assist.
-- I love Carrara White Metallic. That was my second choice color and I almost changed my order at the last minute. It's beautiful and I think you'll really enjoy it.
-- I think the "911 Turbo" badge on the back looks really clean and classic. I wouldn't think of deleting it, but to each his own.
-- I think you should stick with the beige gauges, they will make the interior front pop. Also, if you get the SCP, remember to get the matching beige gauge for it.
-- I had the CF interior on my '14 C4S. I really liked it at first but then got tired of it and wished I had the standard silver trim look, so did not get it again. You might want to consider wood trim. I think it would look great on your build.
Post photos upon delivery! Congrats!

OK .... OK .... I hear ya'all.
Matter o'fact, I was at the dealer this afternoon speaking with the sales / service managers about building a new car. I even signed a 'pre-order' agreement. I know these guys, been here before.
Anyway ....
Couple changes to the initial build. I'll be adding the Sport Chrono package. I'm not sure I'll use it, but the cost will work out fine. The Porsche store had a PO'd '09 that did not have SC. It sold twice until the buyers found it did not have SC and backed out of the deal. Not sure that effects me, but I'm not opposed to the add on.
So, Sport Chrono it is !
The managers liked my pick of espresso leather interior with the carbon fiber wheel and trim. Me, too. And, I said, "Let's add orange contrasting stitching to that". I think that will be good. Didn't discuss the beige dials, but may go with white. Have to see the beige 1st to decide. The CF wheel has different paddles. Odd?? I like the F1
Deleted all sun roofs. I have not had the SR open in my truck in 4 years. Kris has had 3 MB E350s with SRs ... never opened. We have not had the top down in the 997 TT cab this year with her in the car ... I drive it with the top down from work to home. So, no cab .... no sun roof.
I don't care about the ventilate seats. Have them in the present car. Not a big deal. Like park assist, don't need a camera. Less is more.
Delete rear "paragraph" words. Yeah, I'm still down with this. I like what I have on the back of my Midnight Blue TT .... Eric's satin black "TURBO" script. That's what I'll order for the Cararra White TT soon. I like how that looks. The "paragraph" blows IMO.
Couple last points .... decided to get the 20" Classic Sport Wheels (which look like an evolution of the original Fuchs I had waaaay back), but not in black gloss painted as I originally tho't. I'll get them plain and have them powder coated in satin black like my HREs. We'll PC the entire wheel not leaving the bright rim. I don't like that.
Plus, I think I'll have the calipers painted bright orange with black script (brown?). Should pop with the satin black wheels.
Tint the glass, clear markers, yada, yada ... just like B4.
Thoughts about this build?

You'll never get Porsche Exclusive to do painted calipers orange. I tried a simple silver and failed, but good luck. I do know, if goes to Porsche Exclusive, it will elongate your delivery. Worse yet, if gets approved, and then can get renegaded by the factory. Don't ask how I know.
Color is obviously subjective. I would try finding a cocoa brown interior (not swatch) and then decide.
Wish you good luck as it should be a fun process.

Great Combo, now for the sides...
I love the metallic white and espresso combo-- tasty especially with the beige gauges! I agree with everyone else about sport chrono. Why the %$#@ would Porsche not have this mandated for their flagship 911; it's like a bull without *********.
Here is where my build would differ. Note I placed functional options before the aesthetic options:
1. Sunroof in glass b/c if you are going to have a sunroof you might as well maximize its functionality. I live in a cold climate as well and it is good to have natural light. The blind eliminates most of the light if you keep it closed. I have this in my Cayenne and I love the feature.
2. I think $360 for a rear wiper is the best deal going besides the free options. I drive my car when it rains/snows and I need a rear wiper. BTW the smoking package is a must have option and its free! Again, both are functional options.
3. Burmester. If you like hi-fi but don't want to spend $3500 then do not listen to a car with this option!
4. Save $$$ on the CF bits by going with the stock aluminum trim. Spend a few $$ on light-colored contrasting stitching that will compliment both the aluminum trim and the white exterior. Careful because these options are $390 each and add up fast. But wait, you're spending $160,000+ so you better have it your way!
5. LED headlights lights are totally unnecessary but they look so cool and because you did not order a GT3.
6. Premium package because you did not order a GT3.
7. Light design package because you did not order a GT3.
Cheers

I started out with a build like yours. I was trying to save money and therefore the TTS was not an option for me. Eventually I added a few additional items which at this price point do not really affect the payment significantly. My build was still $20,000 less than a similarly equipped TTS.
I added SC- for all of the reasons listed above as well as having fun launching it once in a while for friends, family, and the occasional street race. See video
LED headlights- not must have. Yeah the standard zenons are great but the LEDs are amazing. I figured that most cars are going to be LED in a few years so why be stuck with old technology is such an expensive car.
PDCC- not a must have option. The reason I got it was that it improves the ride quality when driving on poor roads. The sway bars are unlinked when cruising in a straight line which makes the ride more compliant.
I originally was going with the standard dash trim but opted for the CF. The CF blends well with the espresso dash. It looks great, much warmer than the standard silver trim. I also ordered the center console trim in leather. I didn't want too much CF and it really looks quite nice.
I would get the white dials or stay with the standard black. They look nice with the espresso dash and will blend with the exterior. Besides the smoking package, order the no cost storage net in passenger footwell. Again, a functional option.

I realize that we all have our "must haves" and "omit this" on our lists. That's what makes building our own cars so terrific.
I must admit ... I'm not all that crazy about building the "perfect car". I've had like 12 Porsches and many other PDQ cars that I mostly built from scratch. Some I liked more than others. I'm sure I'll have another car in the future. It always happens.
My present 997 cab comes closest to being my "perfect car". Especially with the added bits. Sport shifter, tint, clear markers, Cargraphic Loud exhaust with black chrome quad tips, black satin HRE 43s, FVD tune. Hell, the car makes like 560+ hp and is very quick ! And, it's a manual !
I'm sure I'll tweak my build a bit in the next couple weeks. But, it's pretty solid as last I posted. The painted calipers would be local, as would the satin black PC'd Sport Classic wheels.
