When enough is enough..
lol. I won't argue. Too many threads that give the same advice. Do what makes you happy.
Well that is a pretty drastic change in the tune then for the 991. I'm glad they finally made a turbo car have a completely linear power band. Though when I look at stock dyne sheets I don't see a majority of torque coming on at 1500 RPM like a true linear power band would be.

Dude post a quick phone pic of a glass of water on your car roof and I'll believe you aren't a troll.

I personally really enjoy this characteristic on the 991 Turbo S. Very explosive at low rpm and when the full boost comes on, the sound that the car makes is very unique.
I own a 991 Turbo S with the GIAC stage 2 tune, throttle is improved quite a bit over stock, but the power still isn't "linear" as a NA engine. Some might perceive this trait as "lag", especially when you are flooring the throttle at 2000rpm, waiting for the boost to build up to full boost at around 3000rpm, the amount of power that develops during this increment is quite explosive.

Exactly. To me that is lag. Especially when I come from NA or supercharged engines where the power is there at 1500 RPM (in the case of supercharged). When I drove a .2 TTS that had a cobb tune, I noticed it was more or less linear power, which I liked more.
"When I drove .2 TTS..."
hmmm. No, I don't think so. Not really going to lose sleep over someone who doesn't know how to search for something.

Perhaps one might modify a 991 TTS for competition, but the point of the OP is that the car stock is quite satisfying for public roads. And if you as so obsessive about NA performance get a GT3.
I don't know about everyone else - and I'm not opining on who owns what or doesn't own anything - but there is definitely a split second of time when the thrust isn't there in full. You can't get instant full boost. These cars aren't supercharged. It isn't "wow, nothing is happening" lag. It is "wow this is quick . . HOLY SH$T" It isn't pronounced, it isn't extended, but it is there. For the most part, we don't see it because the PDK is quick to downshift and you are up in the revs. It is the nature of a turbo-charged car. No doubt technology has improved, but turbos still need to spool.
Maybe my problem is that I have had a turbo charged car for too long. It's all I have driven the last 5 years. My 2010 535i had twin turbos, then I got the M5 and my wife has had the x5 3.5i with the n55 and then the x5 5.0i with the 445hp v8 and now the cayenne TTS and all of these cars have the turbo lag to some degree or another. I think the M5 was the worst and then when it came on it was just overwhelming. The Dinan tune made it more linear.
When I first started driving the 991tts after buying it with only the FVD exhaust on it, I noticed that it had way less lag than the m5. To me, it felt linear. Then I put the warantee destroying FVD piggyback with headers and IPD plenum and I don't notice any lag at all. Maybe I just don't push it enough but in town it's hard to do. However, when I do get the chance to get on it, the car seems to me that it responds right away. I run around in sport and use the paddles but when I run quarters I use launch control and there is no lag there at all of course. That is just rocket ship mode.
The one thing about using the paddles is that 1st gear will hit the limiter unless you are really fast. You just can't shift fast enough for the engine unless you are looking at the tach, or I can't. I wish the redline was higher because it sounds like it wants to shift around 7000 but if you wait until 6800 you can't hit the shift before the limiter kicks in so you must shift at 6500 but that is really the top of the power band anyway I think.
Of course I am just a stupid EE that doesn't work on cars and has more money than brains these days and also doesn't track his car so really what do I know? I just have the car and look stupid in it because I am too old to own the car and it's loud as hell but when I was young I stupidly got married and had 5 kids so I was always spending what I made on them and I still am. Oh whatever................
Today I am in Plano and I am going to have a look at some Ferrari California's. They don't have the power of this car but they might have the sound. I don't track the car and really everyone here says how stupid it is to run the car fast in a straight line and so I am thinking that just for looking and sounding good, maybe I should dump this car for the California. After all, I don't track the car and the California isn't a track car, it's just for riding around looking stupid in because you really are too old to drive the car.

When you drove a .2 TTS? I though that you owned one and if so one would say "when I drive my .2 TTS." You obviously have not driven a 991 TTS on a track, for if you had you would not assert such things as turbo lag or the need for different sway bars, etc. Precisely how would you improve upon PDCC, for example? Also, where does HRE provide any guidance about the brake ventilation properties of any of their wheels? Finally, why not take a photo of your car with the glass of water and post it? It is blindingly clear that your perspective is uninformed about the 991 TTS and apparently designed to simply provoke debate, not provide solid information. Who on earth does not think that the company is not in business to maximize profits? Your comment on that as well underscores your naivete.

You hit the nail on the head though - you are used to turbos. If I compared my 991 TT to my old 300ZX Turbos and my 1990 Plymouth RS Turbo (yes - that amazing machine) then I would say the TT has no lag. Getting out of my Range Rover Sport Supercharged and my E55 of yesterday - I can feel the split second spool up at lower RPMs in the 991TT - its all relative. The performance of the TT is just amazing, even if you have to wait a nanosecond for full boost.
And maybe some would think it is dumb to spend a few grand to get down the 1/4 in 10.3 seconds on 4 consecutive runs at an Atco rental. But for some of us, it is like shaving 3 strokes on the golf course to a guy that really, really loves to golf. Caveat - I don't golf.
hummm so this video is your mamma's or dadda's car and you try to claim to be owner here on 6??? I agree glass of water is a necessary proof from now on!
In my experience, there is a small degree of lag with the 991 turbo... it's nothing nasty, but after a 458 and Gallardo, you do feel it.
But who cares... that OMG feeling as it comes on song is just epic
Only thing I miss on this car is the sound. Everything else is very well put
together.

Scar is yours tt or tts? Regular 991tt feels different when driving hard....not as instant and strong as tts at certain revs. I can say I have felt tiny hesitation in tts once when car in manual shifter mode and then put full power from stand start, but in auto mode no such hesitation presents....just rockets off the line like OMG!!!. Is this the lag you mean?
wow........
