To be very frank. In my honest opinion, I really think the weather temperature
is the main factor in this picture. Example, in Dubai currently it is roughly 45 degrees in the afternoon. Now think about it. You just cruise with the car in stop and go traffic in this heat. Whats going to happen with the intake? First of all it is getting hot air, secondly it is not sealed. Meaning you are getting hot air from the engine. I bet the car will be pulling timing just by being stationary at the light with this kit.
We all know the colder it gets the stronger our forced induction car pulls. BUT,,
what happens if your in an extremely cold climate? The car actually holds back power
because half of the time it's trying to generate enough heat in order to fully apply power safely. In extreme cold it takes forever for the oil temperature to fully warm up. Some cars like the new m3 wont let you rev the car high according to how cold it is. So what I am trying to say is that if you had this kit here. I am sure it will be beneficial.
I believe this is similar to the fabspeed intake on the 997 turbo. I have seen some peeple say it definitely produces power, I have also heard some people loose a substantial amount of power with this kit. The point I am trying to make is, a kit of this nature that is not sealed will never have a consistent result of a true closed intake system. There is one out there currently. AWE. Anyway just my 0.02 cents.

The power I do not get. Unless you are racing this every weekend at the track or the drag strip and do it religiously I just don't get people pouring so much money in mods for such tiny gains that unfortunately most drivers are not even good enough to notice or even get. So I can spend 1,000's even into the 10k to go from 0-60 in 2.6 seconds instead of 3. Really don't need that. Or I can have 600 hp to race through the local canyon roads when I can't even use the 520 I already have.
I guess it is just my own opinion and guys with their toys and money can do whatever they want. I am not one to hate, I just don't care to do it.
A bit more on topic about this intake. This just seems stupid to me. If the intake was that bad and needed improvement, don't you think Porsche would have done it from the factory.
I think it's crazy to me that people keep arguing how if things needed improvement that the manufacturer would do it. Do you not understand that all cars have aftermarket parts that are designed to be enhance the performance? Can some mods be pointless? Yes. But airflow on a forced induction car isn't one of them.
I bought my car for the simple point of racing it. I didn't buy it to drive to work or the grocery store. I bought it knowing I was going to mod it every way possible to be faster than the guy next to me. To each his own I guess.

But they Porsche do improve "things", eg: 996 to 997 to now 991 etc and etc. I remember a friends beach buggy had a similar crude design filter just like this ridiculous "thing", thinking it to be improvement and feeling excited to get "more power" but final result was to only wore engine out faster with sand and dirt getting through inside. Sure, buggy it has no back, so no heat is to be trapped and fed to inside engine like 991tt. BUT. 991tt engine is a little more pricey, so...this "thing" maybe not such smart idea iykwim for sake of a few claim hp (maybe user very if lucky there is some extra 1 or 2 hp sometime in some odd situation as some suggest).. but you really wont notice it anyhow...so let's try be honest here guys....mistake is mistake ....and a scam is a scam.....from reknown scammer.Originally Posted by MurderedTurbo

Your argument can be applied to anything aftermarket. Wheels, tires, exhaust...or even the factory tune. I don't subscribe to this logic and I like to modify my vehicles how I see fit. Essentially making the vehicle "mine." Also insinuating the vehicles roll off the factory floor at optimal peak performance is absurd. They're dumbed down for a variety of reasons in several aspects for octane inconsistency in markets, to induction noise and stringent exhaust Db levels and a whole of assortment of other variables. If you want to leave yours stock by all means, do so. I am not trying to sell you anything.
The whole purpose of my thread was to share my results with what I thought was a community of fellow gear heads who like to tinker. Maybe I was confused as to why this board actually exists.
Haha

That's kind of what I was thinking. Every time some does a performance mod and posts about here, members tend to talk down on the OP. Soon everyone will be able to talk down on my mods too since I will have results this week.Originally Posted by JesseRohr

You are a bit confused. The board exists so vendors can shill thier parts! When I joined it was all about the Porsche and car community. When IB took over it changed the tone of this place. Look at the 991 Turbo section, mostly adds. Some sections are 90% adds. While we have some really good vendors we also have more than our fair share sleazy dirt bags who will say or do most anything for a sale. So be carefull and enjoy your mods even if they reduce the performance of your car. It is your car!Originally Posted by JesseRohr

Thankyou Gunther. You summarise it very well like gentleman to couple holding on to sketchy argument about this questionable "thing" as good to do.Originally Posted by Gunther

FYI OP english is my 3rd language, I bet my english is better than your other language, that is if you have ANY! so disguise racist comment of my english not appreciated!! Thankyou!!

You not being able to string together a coherent sentence in English (regardless of where it falls upon your spoken language list) now makes him racist? Originally Posted by BlocktGrills

You are the epitome of someone losing (and why you are so keen on bad-mouthing the man for his free will decision to mod his car is beyond me) an argument who decides to introduce a non-sequitur race bait. Silly. I agree, Vivid's products have never impressed me but the man provided dyno results to substantiate his claims, isn't selling intakes, and was simply sharing his results with the community. Gunther's response was facetious in that, yes, the design of the forum is for threads just like this, though that design/intention has been lost in the last 5 years after the IB acquisition. Same with TS.
