Turbo S sunroof fetich
Turbo S sunroof fetich
Hi dear friends of the forum.
Since I am poor and I can't afford a new car (actually I can but I can't lose 100k in 2 years) I have to pick whatever is in the market.
And all the TS have the glass sun roof.
My question is, if you buy such a performance oriented car why would you put 40kg in the worst place possible, the highest point on the car??!!
I mean look at the magazines and YouTube videos, whenever Porsche gives a TS for a review its always without sunroof and active cruise control. Why do new car buyers need such a silly option??
I asked my dealer if he never sold a TS without sunroof and he said no. When I pointed the fact of the weight and crapier dynamics he just replied that the usual customers are in their fifties and don't track their cars so Sunday drives with the sunroof open are what they want. He also told me about the better resale value with the sunroof.
I was so disappointed....
So dear friends of the forum, please explain to me why do you choose to put a sunroof in your TS's?
Thank you for the feedback 😉

Pure performance is GT3/RS. Pure performance and crazy acceleration is GT2/RS. Turbo/S is more of a touring car that can function as a little bit of everything. Sh*t, this thing even has back seats (I mean storage)
I won't speak for everyone but the TTS is a daily driver that you can take to the track. Since it's a daily driver, the individuals who bought their car wanted the glad roof.
In my particular case, I ordered my TTS without the glass roof as I had more specific plans for my car. My car is a daily driver, however, it is track focused.

I agree with everything except the acceleration part, the TS out accelerates both models you mentioned so why a damn sunroof?!

I am not going to get into a pissing match with anyone about what has more performance or what is more "pure". I built a bad A$$ TT that out handled most GT3's back then and was more pure to drive than anything I have driven myself...
To your question...
I spent months!!! and I mean, months looking for one without a sunroof period. I can't stand them on a real sports car and won't have my car with them period.
You might want to look or only option is to order one with the options you want.
Well, I didn't realize it was that difficult to find a TTS without the glass top. I order my cars so that is probably why. When the dealers order the cars, I guess they select that option as its attractive to buyers more then the non glass tops.

Sunroof or not, the car will dish out more than you can handle on the track. Yes, the car is heavier, but it is not a race car. Weekend fun on track is well served by the TT or TTS with or without sunroof. It's a touring car that can hold it's own at the track. How do I know this? Well a guy who has instructed me & driven many 991 TT & S's races GT3 Cup car series which is a race car & informed me the TTS is excellent on the track just heavy with all the creature comforts.
Just order what you want, & enjoy it! You will not loose a $100K in 2 years. A good Porsche dealership is all about relationships with long term customers, they want to sell you several cars over the years. Many owners including myself like the extra natural light in the interior. Good luck with finding your dream machine, it's out there, will just take a bit more time to find.

Personally I am happy to have the sunroof. What makes this car awesome is that it delivers amazing sports car performance while providing the luxuries of a grand touring car.
I ordered it with the body colored roof. I would have purchased the no-sunroof option, but resale would be a lot harder, so this was a good compromise. Doesn't look like a sunroof, I don't use it and I'll be able to resell with no problem if/ when the time comes.
I mean really, it does get super cold in the winter but your summers are nice and "chaud".
Well, I don't drive this car in winter...we have salt on the roads to melt - which is very bad for cars. I drive a 2015 750 HP blown AWD SRT Jeep in winter. If it decays, rusts from salt, I could care less; I'll only have it for a few years anyway, until the next winter beater comes long - LOL
I personally have zero use for sunrooofs...

This is the dumbest thread i have seen in awhile. How many of you racers without sunroofs aren't packing an extra 30 pounds on you lol. Better hit the diet trail because that 30 pounds extra from your mocha latte is really slowing your car down......
People like what they like, there is zero difference in measurable performance on a 3570 vs 3600 pound car. I'm really disappointed in my heavy sunroof .2 doing a 10.49@131.5mph stock.

Then maybe you should consider losing another 30 lbs if you're so disappointed! 30 LBS is 1/30th of second in the 1/4!! LOL
Time to chill...no need to get upset - it's all good. Just a couple of posters having a friendly discussion over the pro's and cons' of a sunroof is all.
