Can the spoilers retract at high speed?
Can the spoilers retract at high speed?
Hi. I'm wondering if there is a speed limit where you can no longer retract them. Also, in what mode can you do so if possible?
Thanks
Thanks
Pushing the lower button has no effect if the speed is above the retract speed threshold.
Even if you raise the spoiler manually at a standstill once the car is above the deployment speed the spoiler stays up regardless.
When you slow down or come to a standstill again then you can use the button to lower the spoiler.
I would expect the newer models to work the same way.
The spoiler is there for a good reason: To reduce lift and possibly -- at least in the case with cars with the rear engine and open engine compartment lid -- to improve air flow through the engine compartment lid and the engine compartment.
Thus even if there was a way to lower the spoiler at speed you should avoid doing that.
With the older models, the Boxster and 996 Turbo, that I'm familiar with once the spoiler is deployed due to speed the only way I know to retract it is to slow down below the retract speed limit. Then if the spoiler was automatically deployed it should retract automatically.

The 991 spoilers never extend automatically like the previous models.
I've done 190+ with them in and nothing happened.
I just tested today having them extended and trying to retract them at 100mph and it worked fine. I then reextended them at 100 and that worked fine also.

I'm pretty sure that Webcar (is he still banned?) posted a while back that he saw no difference between having the spoilers extended or retracted. I don't remember if he was discussing the 1/4 or 1/2 mile though.

Having the spoilers in track mode definitely makes a difference on the .2 . I see .2 seconds slower 60-130mph and 2-3 mph off my half mile traps. The owners manual for the .2 Turbo S even states that the top speed of 206mph can not be achieved with the spoilers deployed.

Also Webcars 991.1 was a By Design Stage 4 car, so it could be the extra power raised the threshold of the aero disadvantage. I'm only speculating. When I have time, I will try and search for his post. Or maybe other racers will post their experiences.
Where is Webcar all the excitment is gone without him!!
He registered another name months ago. He or the shop he works at (predator) got rid of the 991 TT and got a 991.2 base model with the new 3.0 turbo motor. Pretty sure he's laying low to be able to stay on here.

The front spoiler goes to an intermediate position above xx mph I believe and the rear goes to its intermediate position as well . Sport plus puts both in the full position , the rear also tilts forward to a 7 aoa. So in effect both front and rear have 3 aero positions . G
only in sport plus mode you have more boost. You can also easily retract the spoiler if you're in plus mode. It will still stay in sport plus
