Now that I've gotten my champion turbo upgrade and its 68mm VTGs I know I'm going to have tons of wheelspin on lunch at dragracing type events with my pilot super sports.
I'm going to have to throw on some much grippier tires on the rear for a better launch but I want to be able to be in a situation where I can drive to the track with them and back.
I broke my driver side rear axle on my 997.2 TTS first time trying MT ET streets at a prepped strip. Sure you can try them but eventually your axle will give out.
R888's are the gold standard and are proven. Don't be the guinea pig on the r888R's as we don't know if they will be better for straight line grip. Trofeos are bank and not as good as the r888 for straight line (trofeos more of a track tire).
I'm picking up a set of rear r888's to use at this summer's shift sector Colorado airstrip event.
if you want off the line hook m/t are the ones to use. the bigger the sidewall the better. r888 have to stiff a sidewall to really hook hard. they have great grip once rolling but again if you can break an axle on launch (i broke 3!) m/t hands down are the one to run from a dig. and dss 1000 hp axles will fix the broken axler syndrome . of course the next weakest lin k will show its ugly head
I run R888 with great results...they do occasionally break loose at the strip but still offer fine street manners..they do develop a slight harmonic at speed but otherwise provide the best of both worlds street/strip..not to mention provide an agressive "I mean business" appearance

You run the R888s on the rears? What do you run on the fronts? Any issue with handling when mixing different fronts with different rears?
991 axles are different and pretty tough. We have lots of guys running the MT's Scott but also have learned a lot about what the PDK software will even allow. More coming out on that and universally compatible PDk software soon! The R888's are your best all-around bet. Run 40psi cold in the front factory tires and 35 in the rear so the over-all diameter won't be too off and you get good all-around grip. At he track you can drop 5 from each. The R888-R's I tried once so fat and so far so good but the tread pattern does not accommodate drag racing as well as the old one. Compound in softer though.

Have fun!
Thanks Sam that's great information. I don't think with Weight and power level my car has a nine second run in her but let's see how low she can get into the tens. Everyone seems to say get the R888 rears. So 30 pounds in the rear at the dragstrip with those and 35 pounds in the front.
With the pilot super sports I've actually gone as low as 26 PSI in the rear trying to get some contact Patch. With the new power I'm not even trying a dragstrip on the pilot super sports is I think my elapsed time will be the same or worse dude all the extra wheelspin I would expect to get.
Should I order them with the heat cycling already done?
You could go a little lower but I would start at 30. The tire is designed to hold it sidewall and warm up to about 32/34 for peak performance. I've also noticed it's not that critical because again the PDK is the master of all LOL. It also just depends on your cars delivery of power. We used to start lower and realize to start a little higher and back out. I'd like to order them cycled. They will last longer.

Thanks Sam. I'm inclined to order the tires heat cycled but not shaved. I'm just gonna stick them on my stock rear wheels for events
