Warranty

So here's my dilemma. 2017 TTS and Bearing on rear wheel just went. Local Porsche dealer will not replace under warranty because the vehicle has been modified with Cobb Tune !

Anyone think I can fight this? Porsche had just added a 3 month additional warranty due to Covid19...but will not respect this time.

Any idea? Can they do this?

Should’ve removed tune before you took it in for a warranty issue... in short, yes they can refuse to replace under warranty.

Most dealers are mod friendly. Sounds like you got a dud. But you should have worked through them for the tune to ensure they were compliant. Most dealers will ignore stuff that's immaterial to the actual problem. But of course that's why you have the Cobb AP to remove the tune before taking the vehicle in for warranty work.

Guys,

I had removed the tune before going to the dealership!
Still, when they plugged it, they saw that the computer was modified.
I can say that they were ***.... since, seriously, a bearing VS CPU???
When they told me this bull**** , I was actually negotiating for a new 992 TTS, but guess what....this dealership will never get any of my future business and I may just change brand for next car!

What does the dealership have to do with paying for your repairs under the warranty that you voided when you tuned the car. Do you really think your dealership is going to lie to Porsche and have them repair your car and risk Porsche not repaying for your repair and future repairs. You were toast when they plugged the computer into your car, at that point any powertrain warranties were voided and no way Porsche would authorize any repairs.

So, you think it's ok that because someone tunes their Porsche the dealer has a right to refuse service on a wheel bearing? A wheel bearing? Really?

Seat heater, power seat motor, wiper motor, revers lights no, but a wheel bearing yes. It's their warrant and their rules don't like it buy a Kia, oh I bet Kia will void their warrant for a wheel bearing if you tune it also.

Why because a tune makes the car go fast quickly?
I've never owned a Kia but am on my 13th Pcar. I actually had a wheel bearing go on one of my 911's and that car had a tune and had no issue getting it covered under warranty. I believe it's really about your dealer and your relationship with them.
I understand the risks of tuning and am on my 3rd tuned 911. I do not aggressively tune as I am looking for improvements in throttle response and low end torque. My Cobb tune is perfect for what I was looking for. I have been fortunate to have great dealers who know what these cars are bought for and worked with me on any warranty issues.
I understand also some owners don't tune for fear of warranty issues but I think you can work with your dealer and get a read on how they would handle normal non tune affected issues.
If you are going to tune to Stage 3-4 then the risk is much higher.

Not because it goes quicker, it's because it puts more wear on parts of the cars that the powertrain affects. I am sure others have had things repaired that if Porsche decided to check would have denied because of a tune. My dealer said they don't care if you tune the car but if you bring it in and Porsche decides to check they may deny your warranty claim if it involved the powertrain like in this guys case, the repair would be my responsibility.

when you flashed your car did you remove the ecu for unlock or used the last cobb firmware ?
Did you flash map 0 or completely uninstalled cobb before going to the dealer?
thank you!

If you are asking me, my TTS is a 991.1 so I use the Cobb Accessport hand held to install whichever program I want to run or uninstall.
I have used Cobb in a previous Porsche and really like the ease of use and quality of the tune. I have also used their PDK Update which is a great PDK transformation. Sharper, quicker shifting and less ”lazy” shift points in normal.

For those asking, Ecu was shipped to CA for modify. Tune was removed to factory before going to dealer.
Warranty was to expire June 1, 2020. So at this point, I really dont care if they voided it! But the fact that PORSCHE LAUZON flagged it to Porsche is just so lame! In fact, they actually sold me a modified aftermarket exhaust system in the past !
And now, they offered me $20K less for the car due to this tune....Unbelievable!
Trust me, I will never buy another vehicle from these owners!
Voiding warranty on a bearing is just ridiculous! If the case, folks, Never modify your wheels ! LOL
Had it fixed for 1/2 the price a local speed shop!
Thanks
