My 911S was produced on Wednesday and I got my my VIN today at the dealer (Last digits ...121730 and shows status "CMPPRD") It doesn't show to be on a ship yet or on the dealer's inventory. Anybody know how long until it normally ships or when it should how up in the dealer's inventory?

There is no fixed time for when your car will go on the ship, depends uPon when the ship is filled up - these ships can hold up to 5000 cars so the wait time at the port is typically 1 to 2 weeks. Then 2 weeks on the water (my is scheduled for 13 days) and a week to 10 days until it reaches your dealer. Long time and lots of steps - sounds like a logistical nightmare to me. Don't know what CMPPRD might mean. It's a long wait but worth it!

Your car will probably next go to Quality Control for a couple of days and as Newman said, it waits for a ship. It seems to be luck of the draw when your car is ready to go and when a ship is ready. I heard my car left QC and the next day my dealer told me it was on the water. I think gleek48, who started this string, had his car finish production and QC ahead of mine, strangely his chassis number is 22 higher than mine. There is a good chance that his was ready to go a day or two before my 991, but he is correct that they may be on the same ship. So shipping time can vary with weather, how many ports it stops in, and which port it hits in what order and how long you waited for the next ship to fill and depart. And the wait at customs seems to vary between one and two weeks. Next is the question of how and how long it takes to get to your dealer. My car is supposed to come to Rhode Island which is a 4-5 hour drive from my dealer. Add prep time and figure you can have keys-in-hand two days after it is released from the port. I was told 20 days from Friday is about the earliest. Congratulations - it won't be too long.

Interesting that your VIN is 98 higher than mine. My car was CMPPRD on Monday. So they completed at least 100 cars in two days.

P.s. my last post was meant to quote you not 19hole. I am still new to this!

Thanks for all the info. Sounds like the factory was busy last week. I will keep on top of my dealer to know when it is actually on a ship. From the earlier posts I should be able to track the ship once it is on the water. My car will be unloaded in Houston, then a fairly short ride to Oklahoma City. Anxious to see it, to say the least!

Do you guys know your ship yet? If so, can you post it. I should get the name and est. port date (Houston) next week. I will post when I get it.

SFy1505-Hopefully, you made the same ship we're on! Congrats!

Also, on Ultimate Factories, they indicated that the factory made over 100 997's (of all variants) a day.

Hi gleek48. I have asked and will post any info as soon as I get it. That info from Ultimate Factories is very cool. This BB has been great at helping pass the waiting time and it is nice to meet others, albeit electronically, whose cars shared the birthing process at about the same time. It's like being in the waiting room in the maternity ward with other expecting fathers you just met.

I just watched the Ultimate Factories for the 997 again. They said that they manufacture 16 versions of the 997 and 2 boxsters on the same line with an average production of 40 Boxsters and 110 997's each day. I wonder how many they are making now since they basically only have 4 variants (base/S coupes and base/S Cabs).

That is GREAT! Mine must be on the same ship becuase my salesman said he expected me to have the car by the first week of April, and if everything breaks right, I could be at the very end of March. I can't see it happening any other way. My salesman is out the first part of the week but I left him a message asking for the ship's name.

With luck, we are both driving 991s by the first full week in April!

just got told mine is in the Paint Shop today. Kind of good news, except that it was scheduled to be finished on the 14th and it looks like it has moved to the 19th.
