Porsche/Exotic/Supercar Television Show
Porsche/Exotic/Supercar Television Show
As an actor, and Porsche fanatic, I'm wondering what your thoughts are on a television show that would feature Porsches, other exotics and supercars on television? Probably would want to feature several cars per episode and a feature each week with the owner of one of the cars. Please post your suggestions or ideas here:

As owner of a TV production Company I've produced/developed quiet a few of these types of shows, from a show about "the crazy if not "psychotic things men do when their better halves aren't watching... to pure motorbike and car shows... to cars integrated into a stunt show "ordinary people doing extraordinary things" etc. etc...
Some have been low budget (shows I ended up hosting myself, cheapest person I could find
), some big budget ones (in collaboration with very big Production Companies) and others yet have been just attempts at development which involved many, many people and hours that simply where a waste of time and $$
Surprisingly the low budget ones (still hundreds of thousands of $$) were some of the most lucrative.
Low over head, start small get the viewers and then if your lucky get a licensing deal with a "big dog" company like Viacom.
Most (bigger budget) productions though involve so much overhead, logistics and crew (not to mention Union, legal and insurance fee's
) that by the time everything is said and done it just isn't worth it unless you get Global licensing deals (unless there's big sponsor and second, third, forth and fifth window back-end's involved).
With the likes of Top Gear, production values (and budgets) rival that of the film industry which is VERY hard to compete with (licensed in over 56 countries at it's peak!).
Then on the other side you've got the broadcasters like Speed TV shows which are owned by the network and shot in collaboration with race tracks their subsidiary owns not to mention they are in bed with Castrol and the likes...
Which leaves one option... those shows which look, sound and feel like a damn infomercial (which is what they are).
All this said... there is definitely big $$ to be made in TV but if it was easy... everybody would be doing it!
Sometimes you just have to go ***** to wall and burn all the bridges behind ya!
Hope this info helps.
Good luck!
Edit, just realized you posted a link since this should be in the off topic section... hope you read it before it gets deleted, I don't post in the OT section.
Sorry.

There have been so many car shows come and go it's mystifying. In fact, this thread just brought to mind the Car Show with Carolla, John Sally and 2 other guys, I don't see it anymore. Is that one gone too?
Surprisingly, the weird Pimp My Ride reruns are back from the dead. Much as I hate most of their creations, there isn't much else for car guys so I watch it sometimes.
What happened to the Motor Week and Motor Trend shows?
Car shows just don't seem to last.
With that being said, I'd love to see one like what you describe. Featuring exotics and their owners hasn't worked in magazines but seems better suited to TV.
Heavy Hitters magazine features owners but I don't wanna read all that crap about their lifestyle but I could enjoy it on TV. Something similar to MTV Cribs but more emphasis on the cars. Still viewing the crib and other toys but always coming back to the cars and what it takes to own them and care for them. Hopefully, many will be modded or else you'd lose a lot of people. Stock exotics are cool but so many owners of stock exotics aren't really into cars. They are more possessions than they are objects of pleasure...evidenced by the lack of miles driven and personal attention to the car. Regardless of stock vs modded, the show would have to be about people enjoying these cars for it to work.
