European Delivery pricing

Don't know if this is the right forum, but as this will be my first Porsche, I would like to get some input on European Delivery and pricing. I'm planning to order a 911S Cab for ~ October delivery... wondering is there any discount for 997? All my previous cars were BMWs and I usually paid $1K over their european delivery invoice price...

any pointers regarding Porsche pricing will be appreciated!

I too have done numerous BMW Euro deliveries but there is no $ advantage to doing it with Porsche - in fact, it will likely cost you more than taking delivery in the U.S. Porsche has recently moved from a directly customer charge for Euro Delivery to passing a $3000 cost on directly to the dealer and giving the dealer another car to sell. I'm sure that some portion of that $3000 cost will be charged to you in the form of a reduced discount.

Oh, and by the way, the 997 is basically out of production in most forms with the new 991 replacing it.

That was not the case when I negotiated for a Euro delivered 991. The dealer claimed that the larger discount he agreed to was due to the fact that he'd get another 991 allocated. Nevertheless, the savings does not compare to what I received for the two BMWs I picked up at the factory in recent years. In those cases, negotiations started at a 7% discount for factory delivery.

I ordered a Euro delivery 991 a few weeks ago with an early September delivery. Using USAA, I got a deal for 7.5% off and then the dealer added back the $3k fee he pays for Euro delivery. I did the same delivery 2 years ago on a 2011 997 and loved the experience so much that we are doing it again!

Specifics about Euro Delivery

I am curious what are the specifics about Euro delivery:

1. When you take the delivery at the factory do they arrange your tags and insurance for the period you'll use the car in Europe?

2. Once you're done touring Europe does Porsche ship the car to your dealer or do you have to arrange it yourself?

My dealer told me that we have to pay for the car in advance including European taxes as well. Once you're done touring Europe you have to arrange your own shipping to bring the car home. Once you provide the dealer with proof that the car is exported from Europe they will help with arranging the European taxes refund.

Porsche handles the tags and insurance for 2 week (you can add more). Porsche handles the shipping. Payment before you go. VAT desposit required, refunded when car is imported into U.S. / arrives at your dealer. Here are the details (assuming you are in the U.S.):

does anyone knows how much Porsche charges when you drop off the car in another city (eg other than the factory)? I'm planning to drop it off in Amsterdam and was wondering if it make sense to drive back to Stuttgart and leave from Stuttgart back to the states...

The VAT deposit is up to the dealer. Mine didn't require it.

Depends on the city. Amsterdam would be an additional 630 Euro drop-off charge. Consider dropping off at the Leipzig factory at no additional charge.
