forums opinion on whether MT is a resale killer...
I'm awaiting ship with my 991 black on black base Carrera 991. Loaded, full leather, SE, Sports Chrono, Sport 20" 305 rear wheels, cooled seats, sunroof, MT........................I'm planning on keeping this a long time, no finance, no lease (although I thought that wityh 09 997 C2.............) Does MT kill resale value since PDK will undoubtedly rule the universe in the next few years.......................???
nope. in my opinion it will increase resale value because of the following reason:
1. manual will be rare consider dealers are ordering the PDK for stock inventories
2. manual is 4k cheaper to begin with compare to optional PDK
3. manual will never die for 911. i hope. there will always be someone after it. trust me.
4. PDK might rule the universe but will not replace the pure driving fun of the manual gearbox
what u have to worry about is your other options, since u mentioned a loaded base 991. the options will kill resale. i rather have a decent optioned 991S than a loaded base 991. however, a decent optioned base 991 manual will do really well imo since there are still loaded 997s on the lot. a 80k+ base 991 will just be a surprise for some people.
if u can live with the MT, then it's a must. i'm planning to do the same soon which i predict the MT will hold much better value than PDK this time around.

I love manual transmission. I am not alone in this world. There will always be a buyer of manual transmission

I have been searching for a manual f430, the few I find are commanding a premium vs a discount... There are just fewer of them and although the number of buyers are fewer as well, demand is high.
You guys need to realize that these days, kids don't know how to drive a MT. Only us oldies. Eventually, as they grow older, no one will know how to drive a MT and it will be obsolete. I'd say in 15-20 years or so.
I dunno, I'm in my fourties, and my experience with MT was limited until a year ago, but now I'd never want to get a sports car without MT. Seems that it isn't overly difficult to learn MT well enough to get around, yet mastering it (which I haven't done yet) is a fun challenge. Even my wife prefers MT in sports cars.
I am trying to keep the passion for the manual alive... I have already told my 2 young boys that their first cars have to be manual and rear wheel drive.... I figure if I get them a few years experience like that they will never want to go auto... At least that's my grand plan

I speculate that this PDK will also evolve and the manual won't yet I also feel that the manual lever is ill positioned in the 991 and even looks out of place in the car's console . I also feel that the focus in the 991 is gadgetry and in order to experience the car with at its highest potential it would be equiipped with all the bells and whistles .
Conclusion -- Buy the car you love . They all depreciate .
Afterthought -- I did trade in my 997S with the gadgety 991S in mind but i did not trade in my Turbo . In short the 991 was better than my 997S but I did not like it more than my EVT700 Turbo (which happens to be a manual).
I know what you mean and it initially felt that way to me too, but I quickly adapted to it and came to like both the positioning of the stick and the precision of the shifting. The only real negative for me is that I still feel 7 gears is too many for a manual, even if the gear ratios for the first 6 are about the same as the 997.
