Wheel Spacers

I have received a quote of $600 from my Porsche dealer to install 5mm wheel spacers on my Carrera S Cab with sport design wheels. Can anyone who has had them installed post before and after pics of their vehicle? Besides the cosmetic appearance benefits, they tell me there's performance benefits as this will increase the track width by 10mm... I'm on the fence about this, not sure if there's enough benefits to doing this. Thoughts?

I don't think 10mm is going to do much for performance but I am sure is going to look great. What brand spacers did you buy? and where did you get them? I am looking for a set of 7mm and 15mm.

I have not put a set of spacers on the 991 yet, but I don't know of any differences from the 996/7.

$600!!! Jeez. I can do it with H&R spacers and bolts for less than $300. Call me.

Is there ANY improvement in handling, if the wider track is from spacers alone, with the rest of the wheel attachment point / suspension geometry unchanged?

What would be a good size to go with without protruding the fenders too much? The 5mm seems very subtle I doubt it will even be visually noticeable. I was thinking 5mm front and 10mm rear although I've never seen it on a car. Opinions?

I didn't buy the spacers yet, only enquired my Porsche dealer here in Canada.
I would have to agree with you and say that 7/15's sound like a better option than straight 5's. This is where before and after pics come in handy

I live in a rural area, 2 hours from my nearest Porsche dealer. If I were to order the spacers myself, what would be involved in getting these installed? Can a local non-Porsche mechanic install them?

They are really easy to install yourself assuming they're the same as my 997.2. The spacers come with a set of longer lug nuts. One wheel at a time remove the wheel, remove the small screw you'll see flush with the hub, slide on the spacer and fuse to the hub using the screw you removed aligning the threads in the spacer and hub and then simply bolt the wheel back on using the longer ones that come in the box with the spacers. I recommend using a little optimolly paste on each bolt.

I have little ability yet did this for all 4 wheels in about 20 mins. I used the 5mm. Difference is more noticeable than you might think. They don't look much wider, it's more that they now sit flush with the wheel arches giving a very nice aesthetic.

Same here. Ordered 5mm Porsche spacers for 991 from Suncoast and installed myself. As simple as with previous Porsche models. No explanation required, very easy and straightforward (remove the wheel, remove 2 little screws on the hub, install the spacer and attach with the 2 longer screws, put the wheel back with the longer lug bolts...)

Here are a couple of pics I took during the install:

I'm in southwestern Ontario, near Windsor. I negotiated a way better deal with my dealership and will drop off the car tomorrow morning. I'm also getting the PSE I ordered installed and should have the car back Friday night...

Can't wait!
