Traded in 997.1 for 991

So, I traded in my 997.1 4S manual trans, 31k miles, 2008, PERFECT condition. dealer here in CT is giving me $58k for the trade and $5k off the sticker off of a highly optioned 991S($131k).
Thoughts?
How have other dealers discounted the new 991's and anyone trade in a similar 997.1?
Glass sunroof caused a 6 week delay!

Im sure they can do much better than $5k given the profit margin they have in these cars.

Sounds like a Great deal to me. I only go $3K off of MSRP for a 2013, granted I custom ordered the car. It must be similarly optioned. Mine was just over $131K. My build date is August 20th, so I won't see my car until October. Can you post the details of your build? Congrats!!

On a $131K car i would offer $120K in this market, 8.3%, like the other post said there is large $ margin here for dealer, and they will sell your 997 for profit also. I got almost 5% on a base MT much less margin for them and it also was a custom order (Full leather, etc). Bargain hard.

wanted to add black powder coated 21" sport techno wheels, too late as the build was already closed out. Will survive with the silver sport techno wheels.

There isn't a dealer in the country that would take this deal! The margins on the Base and S are the same and I think that you will find that "almost 5%" is a very generous discount. While there may be a decent profit in the cars, there is a very large overhead to run a Porsche store. the building must meet all of PCNA decorative specs and all of the staff need to be continuously trained to be able to sell the product.

Agree with 19hole. I have a feeling you need to re-evaluate your logic there.

To the OP. Can't wait to see what that car looks like. Similar to a spec I would have made. Looked at GT silver, two tone Agate/Pebble, glass sunroof, Carrera S wheels in black and Sport Chrono in yellow. Only other difference was Burmester.

So you negotiate up from there. Ask yourself what's the worst outcome with that offer... Dealer says no, then negotiate from there. Last I heard there's no charge for making an offer.

Sorry but your both wrong....although not common, there are dealers with certain cars and certain customers that are discounting that much.

Just a minor point, but my understanding is that the dealer margins (difference between MSRP & Invoice) are less in the Base than in the 991S!

Negotiating a good discount is an art form, not a science. It takes skill & practice, but it can be done in most market conditions!

The actual margin difference is less than 0.2% which in most things would be looked at as being the same.

If there are dealers out there giving those types of discounts out there they are: 1) selling the demos and getting back end money from PCNA 2) doing HUGE favors to thier friends or 3) about to go out of businees because they can't pay the staff or any of the other bills!

I doubt very much any of them are going out of business anytime soon over super discounting a $130K car, for one there are factory incentives and they make plenty on the service we all spend there. I don't feel any pity on insulting them on a low ball offer when they do same on our trade ins. happened to me for example.
Like the other posts said negotiation is an art form.
