To order or not???

I have been thinking of putting in an order and have spent countless hours on the Configurator.

While in south cal on business I went in to look at colors as I have been vacillating between platinum and white. The car I am thinking of ordering would have many options including PCCB and PDCC as well as PDK and Sport chrono.

Low and behold the dealer had a car very similar to all of the options I would pick with a few exception.

This car does not have the sport suspension but has the PDCC. Instead of sport design wheel it has muli function. While all of the interior is pretty much what I would order including Espresso, the outside is Basalt. On the outside it is missing alu window trim and the sport design package which I would order. I do like the aluminum window trim an was wondering if it can be retrofited. I think it would look great on black.

Please give me your feedback but leave out the not worth it comments as I have looked at the options and an pretty set on most of the things that this car already has.

Thanks in advance.

Sloopy,
If you have not included the glass sunroof in your build, i would actually order the exact car you want as the wait is not that long. You may have seen number of people on the board who compromised and bought off the lot instead of waiting and then regretted not waiting the extra time to get exactly what they wanted in the first place.

Hope that helps

I was in exactly the same position as you, and ended buying one off the lot.
While the perfect configuration is very exciting, many here will also attest to the fact that they ordered options that they'll never use.

Compromise is not a always bad thing and I also managed to get a (5%) discount from the very helpful dealership that also agreed to change the wheels at my request for a small fee.

Ask yourself what you'll really need and go with your gut. At the end of the day the only one living with your decision (or compromise) is you.

All the best.

Dux

PS. The aluminum trim around the windows looks great. Enhances the lines of the car.

Assuming your spec isn't included in the following note that z356 posted, I would order exactly what you want as the wait will probably not be super long.

Note from z356 on another forum:

"Porsche GB today issued a notice all dealers saying:'Due to shortages and quality problems at suppliers please be informed that Germany have blocked Electric Slide/Tilt Sunroof (653) and also Painted wheels in exterior colour CRX, XD9 and XDA for new orders.' " Option #653 is the new glass sunroof option!"

I would recommend Ordering it the way you want it. I have mine on the ship and I went through the same thought process. I would thing about PDCC as the car dose not really need it until you are going to the race track and push it beyond limits. Check the paddle shifters and the stearing wheel it is good to add.

If you are spending that much on a car, might as well get exactly what you want.

the pdcc debate continues but its got nothing to do with benefit only being derived if its on the track... it has everything to do with keeping four wheels on the ground for increased performance and safety. I'm not going to get into the issue here but that feedback is directly from people in the know... the PDS instructors. By the way if you push ANY car beyond its limits the result is the same....you crash!

Thanks for all the help. I have done a lot of research and am set on the options and the car at the dealer has all of them with the exception of the shorter springs.

I did want the glass sunroof but would probably order without it anyway as it is not that important. The one on the lot has plain sunroof.

The trouble I am having is the one on the lot is haunting me and is keeping me up at night.. I had a problem like this with a women once 39 years ago and she still haunts me today.

Does anyone know if the aluminum window surround can be retrofitted?

One things for sure, you're going to like whichever option you go with. If it feels right...do it! We sometimes tend to forget that the journey (in this case, of buying a Porsche) should be a fun one. I often have to remind myself of that. Enjoy!

I don't think anyone is getting a glass sunroof anytime soon. As previously mentioned, the production dates are being pushed out due to supplier issues.

As for the Alu window trim, I can only imagine that its a straightforward swap.

Best to ask the dealer prior to taking delivery. If it means a sale, they'll make it happen...

Just be careful purchasing a car off the lot. Porsche recommends you keep the car under 4000 RPM's for the first 2000 miles (Break-In Period). I'll guarantee you, if the car has been test driven, the engine has exceeded 4000 RPM's. I know I didn't keep the cars I test drove under 4000 and the salesman sure didn't care. I personally wouldn't want to risk potential engine problems down the road, especially if you plan on keeping the car for any significant length of time. Best of luck with your decision. I ordered my car on June 1st and the wait has been torture. I won't get it for another 6 to 8 weeks, but when I do take delivery, in the grand scheme of things, I'm sure the wait will feel minuscule and well worth it.

One thing to add regarding the Glass Sunroof. I believe Porsche delisted it as an option. I went to build a car on the Noth American Website, yesterday, and the Glass Roof option was gone.
