Has anyone considered the upcoming 981
Hello all
I have been lurking here for quite a while and finally decided to post . Well I don't have a porsche nor ever had one .. but Definitely wanted one since I was a kid. My daily driver is a 135i and it served the purpose well untill i saw the 991.
The 991 is a beauty. Then comes the boxter which is good looking . I keep hearing people say that the 981 is a better car to drive than the 991. I dont want to go through the practicality of a 991 vs 981 . I was wondering if everyone here had considered the upcoming cayman as a potential buy before getting the boss.
I haven't yet had a chance to test drive either as I still have an year before my lease ends.

today's WSJ:
Q: I am considering a new 2013 (brand new model) Porsche Boxster or a used 2008 (discontinued model) Porsche 911 Carrera with 11,000 miles. The price of each is similar. Which is the better choice for long term value?
—Roger A. Fields, Pittsford, N.Y.
A: While I am longtime fan of the Boxster, the 911 tends to be a better long-term proposition. Its quality ratings are high and it holds its value well. It is also the alpha car in the Porsche lineup, so driving enthusiasts tend to seek it out.

All I can say is "Woof!"

My concern regarding owning a 991 is much beyond the $$. I can afford it but logistically I cant argue with my wife regarding its priority. 2nd year into a career and I havent bought a house for reasons unrelated to $.
I work in Eastern KY where daily driving a 991 can draw some undue attention [personal opinion].
Well I guess everything gets sweeter when you wait.I guess this will remain my wallpaper for a couple more years.

I know it might sound bit weirdo in the 991 section - but having driven 987 and 997 in comparison - 987 is most of the time almost as good - aside from the "alpha" image point of view and maybe behavior on the long straits - but otherwise as good and on slalom type of things - mid engine kicks *** of the rear engine big time (yes they moved the 991 engine closer to the mid - but still). So why not start enjoying the Porsche already now?
Test drove the 981 Boxster s and 991 coupe/cab base back to back several times. I had a 987 boxster s and a cayman S before
The new 981 is a looker ,no doubt about it but the 911 coupe looks great and cab is not that far away in looks
From a driving excitement and grip perspective- The new 991 coupe/cab kicks *** . There is something magical about rear engine dynamics. The 991 variants still gives you the thrust from behind but is more stable around corners-(mid engine like) and for street driving even in wet it was awesome with lotsa confidence.
Oh one more advantage is much less wind intrusion in the 991 cab than the boxster due to extra rear windows and better wind deflector
I much prefer 911 base cab over 981/987 boxster s

I have driven both on the track, and own a 991. There's no comparison, 991 >>>> 981. That being said, the 981 did surprise me in that it was actually pretty fun to drive, albeit on a track and completely thrashing it. Any rate, agree with Neil and others, save up and get the flagship Porsche.
