I am New to Porsche and am researching the brand. Of course, I realize that the forum is used to help understand and often times repair issues, and we need to discuss them.

I'm just needing a few positive responses about their New/possibly slightly used car Purchasing/Driving experiences...

 

Although I might complain a bit (it is a brand new car and has had to have some repairs done ) I personally think my 991S is an absolutely wonderful machine. Best I have ever owned. Mine is a very early 2012 991, so lots of recalls.

You can drive it to the grocery store, on long distance trips, flick it through corners on a twisty road or hit 60 in about 4 seconds flat. The Velvet Hammer.

I had my 90 yo Mom out in it the other day for a day trip, she loved it!

 

My 90 year old mom loved mine also!!! I'm really sorry she didn't live long enough to ride in this one.

My 58 year old mom hated by 997 Targa (I loved it tho ) but she adores the 991S. I guess she has a very sensitive feel for suspension dynamics.

4 months, 6k miles, 7 track days: I've had zero issues with mine. FWIW I don't count a couple recalls as problems, maybe because I don't daily drive mine so don't mind losing it for a couple days for prophylactical.

 

I believe the term is prophylactically ... I feel Ya!

 

Mine has 1K and has not been in for service. No problems with the car mechanically.

On the other hand I don't like the car and will put it up for sale next week. It's to close to a luxury car and to far from a 911 for my tastes.

 

About 1100 miles now - the only issue I have is with the convertible top closed, driver's window down and the passenger's window up..I get a buffeting similar to an open sunroof buffet at high speed when other windows are closed (in other cars). It's truly annoying but I just crack the passenger window automatically now when I put my side down and that solves it. I honestly can't believe they let that through quality control in the production process. I'll bet it is worked out or fixed for the 2013-14 model years and forward.

 

I've driven mine daily for 7 months and 12500kms so far. I have driven it hard. I am no slouch as a driver. Did not follow break in guide lines. Other than an extended stay at the dealer for recall issues, no problems at all. I have a sneaky suspicion that the car will be highly reliable now for the rest of its life.
It is a very capable performance car and you may find this hard to believe it is actually good value for money. To better this sports car driving experience you have to take a big jump to the exotics which cost at least twice as much.

 

The car basically sells itself. This is evident in the numerous accolades and industry awards.

Dealerships are always "nice" during the purchase process. After all, you're about to spend a small mortgage with them.

But more importantly, all cars have problems. The real issue is how the company and its dealer network react when these inevitable problems arise.

That is the question..

I have no doubt that you can get a good deal on a slightly used phenomenal car privately or from a dealership. Either way, the warranty is the same and you could always extend it.

 

I have a new 991S. My first Porsche. It is like crack cocaine. We refer to it as "car", but let me tell you: it is a different beast altogether. Problem is, you likely won't be able to go back. Which is a nice problem to have.

Hope that counts as a positive.

Not yet, but I'm too old for the 991 GT on a fast track and that's probably where it would happen.
