Techno wheels ?

I am wanting to change my order on my 991 to techno wheels and am running out of time to switch them. I did a little research on here about these wheels and everyone seems to say they are 1/2 inch wider with 305/30/20 on the rear and I like that the wheel would be more flush with the wheel lip.
My concern is on the configurator they show to be 11.5 inches wide with a 295/30/20 is this a recent change or a type O ?
Anyone recently get these or have any facts on this? I just don't see why they would change them.

Thanks ! You would think they would be more conscientious of the info they display.

I recommend getting them painted black (or body color, depending on your car's color) if possible... I think they look amazing half painted the way Porsche does them (search the forum for pics if you haven't seen them). Unfortunately that's not an available option at the moment, at least in the U.S.

Speaking of which, anyone know if it's possible to get them half painted in the aftermarket? My build is scheduled to be delivered in April and the main reason I ordered the sport technos was because I was hoping I could get them painted, but it looks like that option won't become available (from Porsche) before my order locks.

At least I can take solace in the fact that they are wider and are supposedly lighter (although no one seems to have any hard numbers on this).

Sorry to hijack the thread.

I am curious on this as well. I was going to get the Techno's, painted, but then they dropped this as an option on the configurator. So, I went with the standard S-wheels. I have to decide in the next week or two, but, if I could get a quality aftermarket job done in matching color I would likely change my order.

20C4S I p'm you and thanks. I originally ordered a white car with Carrara s wheels in platinum but then I started looking at the sport techno's. Weird when I first looked at them I said no kinda plain. Then I seen some on others guys cars here and learned about there size difference and the fact they are lighter and easy to clean.
Well I thought for a few days and they really grew on me so I said I'm in but I like contrast so I felt they would not look as good with white, so here we go. I changed the color to black exterior. I'm getting tired of looking at the configurator everyday, talk about a 180 flip. The car locks at beginning of Feburary and I can't wait. No more changes, I'm sure my sales man can't wait either ha ha ha.
I've never owned a black car out of the 26 cars I've had in my life and said I never would, well I guess there is a first for everything! I think it will be ok because it's not a DD for me. I went and bought a cheap little SUV for all the running around stuff and bad weather.
I have seen the painted techno's and they look good but I wonder if there is a problem with chipping and they deleted it from costly repairs. Just a hunch.

I was in the opposite position, having had black cars for the previous 7 years and was leery of changing away from what I liked. I did end up going with the big change in color to white, and satin black (dealer painted) wheels. It has been just short of 3 months so far, but I am very happy with the look and ease of maintenance on the sport technos (and love the car). I even wash the inside of the wheels through the spokes. Good luck with the decision and congrats.

Your car is a dam good locking car and I'm still shocked I've made this kind of drastic change as I have always for the most part gone with my comfort zone which is white. I hope I will adjust ok.
I've seen your car several times and every time I see it, it catches my eye but for some reason I kept thinking you had aftermarket wheels and just now noticed they are sport techno's. that's awesome ! How did you get them black?
Are they painted or plasti dip ? Are they holding up well?

I didn't really like the part black wheels and told my dealer before the build. He said they had some previous experience with a local painter doing black wheels for them, so we ordered them standard aluminum color and had 'em painted here. Like I said before, it's only been about 3 months, depends on the painter / paint, but holding up perfectly to date even with some salt and west coast winter road conditions.

Another factor, although not my primary concern, the local paint was also less money than the factory option. Win Win - Got what I wanted for less

That's awesome and I'm glad it worked out for you. I don't know if you'd know the answer to this, but would the paint place have been able to paint them half black like Porsche does it if you asked them to? I asked my dealer this, but he said it would be possible to paint it only completely black like you did it. I'm thinking it can't be that hard to paint them half black, just put some tape over the areas you don't want to be black and spray the whole thing...

As to why that option is still not available from Porsche yet, what Sascha Glaeser (Porsche consultant on the West coast) told me was that they were so popular that they're on backorder, and they're waiting to clear the backorder before they start accepting new orders. That's the official word anyway.

sport techno spoke direction/symmetry

Question about the Sport Techno wheel. We know the differing widths for front vs. rear, but I was also curious about the rim face design. Each of the 5 spokes has a raised part and recessed part. Because the rim face design is the same on all 4 wheels, either the raised or recessed part will be "leading", depending on if the wheel is on the right or left side, correct? Does this bother the OCD folks out there?

I made a simple illustration - maybe some wheel experts can chime in with more precise terminology.

Hi Kmatt, your car is looking great! Its nice to see a fellow 991 enthuasiast and vancouverite on the board. I am also a recent happy owner of a Carrera white 991S. I have the Carrera Classic wheels but have always liked the techno as well. Hope to see you on the road some time.

To stay on topic, i think all black wheels looks far better than the partly black look. it really comes down to personal preference.

Yeah, I agree with you. It makes it easier to build the wheels by the manufacturer, but you then get mismatching wheels that seems to be going forward on one side and backward on the other side. It does bug me, but I am thinking of moving up to the Techno Wheels as well

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll still get these wheels. There isn't a clear winner to me among the OEM choices, so the spuncast weight/width factor breaks the tie for me here. The asymmetry does bother me, but not that much, so maybe this is a proof that I don't have serious OCD
