Base 991 Sports Mode does what?
Base 991 Sports Mode does what?
What does the "sports" mode button on a base 991 with PDK and NO OTHER option do?
There is no PASM, PTV, etc to activate like on a S.
Does it simply just relax the traction control?

I have a manual with no options.
For me, Sport Mode:
* Cools the engine oil further (225F in normal mode, 200F in Sport mode)
* Turns off auto start/stop
* Turns off the dummy upshift light
* Enhances throttle response
* Exhaust sounds more aggressive when applying throttle
* Increases fuel consumption (I drop several MPG. I don't exactly know why, likely due to throttle and extra effort to run the oil cooling fans)

With PDK it changes the shift characteristics also it will shift harder in auto or manual. In auto the up and downshift points are changed dramatically. It will hold a gear before up shifting if you let off for example expecting you to get back in it any second.
With sport plus button pushed it becomes another car all together. The auto shift points are really only good for the track. The shifts can only be described as violent. The engine reacts more aggressively also in a way I find hard to describe.
I know you did not ask about sport plus but I find myself in normal mode cruising or sport plus in manual mode cranking on it. Sport plus in auto is hard to use on the street unless you are losing your mind and really cranking it up.

spot on!
Oddly enough, that darn dummy light in Normal mode really annoys me. It is constantly on above 1500 rpm. It is just a small triangle, but half the time I engage Sport Mode JUST to get rid of that darn annoying triangle.

SPORT also changes the downshift patterns..if you quickly go from gas to brake it downshifts.
You can completely disable the upshift triangle in the PCM options.
Thanks for the replies!
So consensus it doesn't do much, especially if you run it in manual PDK. I'm surprised about the oil temp dropping though.
ChuckJ: yep, I finally found a low optioned PDK. lot car with PDK + sports steering which is all i wanted. Had a few non performance extra which i could of done without or traded it all for lower price or sports chrono, but i digress.

Why? Under normal mode, the car allows the oil to run a bit hotter. Supposedly it is better for emissions and MPG, but I don't know why.
Under Sport mode, it runs the oil thru the intercooler all the time, and keeps it at a lower temperature...to compensate for more aggressive driving and better protect the engine at high RPMs.

Is it possible to program the car to have the Sport button on by default if it's so obviously a better state to have it in? Does it have to turn itself off each time you turn the car off?
