upcoming 918 spyder: the best option ever?

in my misery of waiting to take delivery, i took solace in this old article on c/d:

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/201...r-pricing-news

now i thought i optioned my 991 with some sweet choices, but sorry everyone, this takes the cake!

quote:
"Even if you end up at the back of the queue, Porsche will soften the blow with an exclusive toy to entertain you while you wait. As a 918 buyer, you will be allowed to purchase the 911 Turbo S "Edition 918 Spyder.” Available only to buyers of the 918, it, too, will be limited to no more than 918 units."

so it sounds like they're saying if they time the delivery just right, you can entertain yourself with the turbo while waiting for you 918!!! that is one helluva ****tail weenie while waiting for the main course!

Anyone know if anyone actually optioned this?!?

I have seen one of those turbos up for sale. Unless it was some sort of aftermarket mash up. I believe I saw it listed back in October or so.

It's not the same as buying two Kias for the price of one, that's certain!

guess that means they didn't sell enough of them to the 918 buyers. roughly speaking, a 179k add on is about the same percentage cost of getting a x51 power kit on the carrera s.

It looks to me like they are beginning to take the 918 up over 90% of it's capability.

I saw one of these Turbo's in the factory at Zuffenhausen last September. It had been pulled from the production line for some reason and was stored just behind the area where the marriage of the chassis and the body happens. They've been around a long time. There's one in Vancouver and apparently the 918 will follow.

918 is for royalty, celebrities and business tycoons. If you are simply a successful business person, you may want to discuss the porsche 960. But that is a few years away though.

I definitely am interested in what the 960 has to offer. To me it's basically a 918 with the electric car crap stripped out. IMHO, the 918 is over priced for what you get, although I think that $800 hybrid tax credit might push some people over the edge.
