997 GTS to 991S
997 GTS to 991S
Anyone here gone from a 997 GTS to a 991S? I have a 2012 GTS (6 speed) that I really like, but getting a case of the new car fever that I unfortunately seem to get about every two years. Usually, there is only one cure for me when that happens.
So, just curious if anyone here has made the switch, and what your feelings are about the change. I recently retired, so the car will just be a "pleasure/fun" car for me, not a daily driver, and I probably won't track the car.

If you drive it you will buy it.
My intention was to buy a couple/few year old low mileage used 997. I dove a bunch. Then the salesman suggested I try a used 991. I did, no comparison. I ended up buying a new 991. Drive it, you'll like it.
I went from a 2011 Carrera GTS to a 2012 991 Carrera S cabriolet. Unbelievable jump in refinement, great upgrade. Both are terrific cars, but the 991 is much more modern to me. Drive it, you will love it.
Thanks for the feedback. I have driven the 991. Just trying to convince myself that the depreciation hit on my GTS with only 6K miles is worth the change to the 991, and wheter I would be happier after the new car luster wears off. I do have the fever.

that is a good point...there is something to be said for the great improvement in interior components of the 991.
In your case, I would wait till the 991 GTS comes out. When is that? No idea.
Yours is pretty new. It probably still has the new car smell too. I know it's difficult to join this forum and not get caught up. Unless you just have to have the newest each spring, just wait.
With the GTS supposing to be the ultimate version of that model, just hold off. Drive what you have then jump to the new one when it arrives. It's not like 997 GTS is crap, very good car.
Now if you like to have a stable or harem, then by all means continue the collection. Don't let the peer pressure get to you.

I honestly love my 991. I would buy it again.

You have basically a brand new GTS.... the best of the 997's. If it was me, I would keep that beautiful car another year or so, let the 991's depreciate a bit then revisit getting a 991. While I believe the 991 is an upgrade in almost all areas, you have an awesome car and agree with Chup, enjoy what you have, drive some off some of the depreciation and see where you are in a bit. It's not like you are driving a 996..... oh, my bad.
Typically the "special" models of 911's such as the GTS come just before the model is refreshed or moving to a new one. To keep buyer's interest up until the new model is ready. I'd not expect a GTS until late 2015 or even 2016 on that basis.

MikeS has a good point about the depreciation hit also.
That won't be a problem. I like the GTS better than any 911 I have had. I just have the new car fever, and I am being tempted by a 991. My wife will probably cure me once she finds out I am looking at something new (A new car of course, not a new wife; that would be way too expensive).

GS997S,
the more i drive my 991 the more i miss my 997. 991 is a great car for daily but it's somewhat too fancy for me. in my mind the 911 should always be simple, direct & pure driving machine. the 991 just lack of some direct connections compare to the 997 i had.
u have the perfect gentleman modern 911 to date imo. i'd enjoy it more before jumping into the 991. looking back the 911 history, the last variant of the previous generation always proven to be the best one down the road. the GTS is simply that & more. a wide-body RWD packed with the right performance figures. hard to ask for more.
if u decide to sell please remember me & shoot me a PM first.

The low end torque is about the same: disappointing. For me, I don't even like driving the 991 without sport/sport plus enabled.
Like some others around, I have a tendency to trade for the "next thing" before mine is really broken in well. You cannot worry about the the money hit on these cars ever. You just live with it or don't trade.
I am waiting for the GT3 to be out. I may get rid of both of these for a new GT3. If I were me again, I would probably trade. The 991 is a killer in disguise. But this comes from a GT3 owner, so you know how I drive.

Besides the 997/991 I love the GTS on my Panny and it just has that different experience and feel that you can't replace on the regular non GTS.
keep the GTS...just my 2 cents
