near catastrophe at grocery store

We get snow flurries, and people just become dingbats. I'm parked way out in the lot at the grocery store, tons of spots around, and when I'm loading my groceries into the front trunk, some dingbat in a red Civic decides to start backing up toward my car. He was going to basically sideswipe me from rear left bumper all the way down my door if I wasn't out there.

I start yelling, "WHOA!!! wtf are you doing?" (windows are up so he can't hear me) - at this point he is 2 inches from my side bumper and KEEPS coming. Then I start banging my hand on his trunk lid - WHOA!!! he finally stops and just pulls into the spot in front of him! That's all he had to do in the first place! It was almost as if this idiot was magnetized to sideswiping me. He got out and blamed the snow. Really? Flurries? Cmon now.

Many times when I park way away from the grocery store entrance at the isolated spot in the parking lot of grocery store...I get back and see: a) Mini-Van b) Prius c) Civic d) Sentra parked right next to me...even with rest of the space available. This pisses me off...what're these folks thinking??

A housewife once scrapped my driver's side door on my BMW e92 335 coupe while trying to park into the spot right next to me...gotta watch out ...I say...it's just pure luck...

Grocery stores , shopping malls, movie theatres, sports stadiums and just about any place where a nice car sits quietly waiting for its driver exposes the risk of some careless ding or dent . Even the public roads are like an obstacle course as the lowest common denominator of driver skills are present . Even when one thinks that nothing could ding the car there's always that gust of wind that blows down a branch of a tree or flying piece of debris from the road ahead . It's neurosis ? Nope !!! In my opinion it's more like second nature to a high end car ownership experience .

I think that when most people look at their dream car they imagine driving down the open road in total bliss . They rarely think of the negative aspects .

In short ... I hear ya !!! Glad you got your groceries and no dings !!!

Betcha video is staged. If it were real, yahoo would have picked up the sign and smashed the crap out of the Porsche.

Enough Prius bashing. I am a Prius owner, I also own a Honda Van, a Honda Civic, an MGB and a 991.

It's not the car, it's the a**hole driving. My wife insists that my Porsche is an a**hold magnet. Every time we are out some idiot wants to race, needs to get a real close look (while driving) or has suddenly obtained a desire to hike (parks next to my baby in the parking lot hinterlands).

Here's the answer: by definition, the average IQ is 100, meaning that half the folks are below and half are above. If I may, how about if we consider that common sense and driving ability are similarly distributed?
