Bottom scraping with a 991s with SPASM
So, I guess a 991s is 10mm lower than a base 911. And, with SPASM, it is another 10mm lower. Although, it looks better, how common is it that you scrape your bottoms whilst doing routine grocery shopping around town?
I hand one scrape in a year, backing down a driveway and not turning as I went into the street. Neatly removed the entire spoiler with one "pop". Fortunately it also went back on with a couple of pops, right then and there. If you lay under the car you can see the scraped plastic. My former car, a Boxter S RS-60 was far more prone to scraping.
For a daily driver, I have scraped my lip at least 6-7 times in 5 months of ownership. I mean its not terribly low, but enough that parking entrances are now a 45 degree or less affair. I have now picked my choice of banks, gas stations and grocery stores solely on their gradient of ramps. But some are just unavoidable. Eh I figure 170 bucks a year for a new lip is not too bad a trade for the handling and stance benefits.
I got front lip scrapped a couple of times in the beginning - now I've learned (I think) how to drive up/down sharp gradients at an angle - given my front lip is painted, I have to be extra careful...heck I got it clear bra laminated too lol....pic attached
It's amazing though how flexible this thing is- a couple of times when I got it scraped (bottom), it scraped hard almost folding it in...but not a single blemish / crack etc shows! I'm very impressed!!'

I was one of the few that scraped the bottom of my C4S with SPASM on the way out of the dealer... Glad I got that out of the way
I am not worried about scraping the front lip because it is easy to replace and I do not have it painted. One of the benefits of a black car...
Saying that approaching gradients I do use caution and the angle approach.

The bottom ? So far never.
The front splitter however is another story - I scrape it just going to the hardware store.
Luckily it's made for that (thanks Porsche). No expensive carbon fibre here. Just some ABS plastic which can handle it, scrape and flex as needed.

It is only the breakaway lip for me (which breaks away once a week!). I am totally redoing our driveway and entry apron to help. I have only bottomed once. I am learning to drive all over again, and slowly.
