Has anyone here replaced the P O R S C H E nameplate on the rear deck?
Has anyone here replaced the P O R S C H E nameplate on the rear deck?
Hi, guys,
Okay, I'd made my first bad decision: I removed the Porsche lettering on the rear because I'd wanted to center the "Carrera S" and call it a day.
Unfortunately, there is a blemish that had been covered by one of the letters and I'm not looking to have any paint-work done. So I've decided to get a new set of letters and reinstall the P O R S C H E nameplate.
The replacement letters from Porsche Parts does not come with any type of template and I was wondering if anyone here has installed a set? I wouldn't be all that concerned if the lid was flat, but the curve is throwing me off.
I did run a search for this subject, but came up dry.
Thanks in advance,
Peter M

A couple guy over on RL have done it. DBYT and duxsi. Here is the answer
I have just "PORSCHE" and the letters are 4cm apart. The "P" Starts at 14cm from the accent (crease) line that surrounds the left tail light. Also 14cm for the "E" from the Right Tail Light .
Here is a thread about it

I would add that the logo is not perfectly horizontal, but (very) slightly follows the curvature of the bumper. I have done it a couple of times and used painters tape to help with the alignment.
Pete,
It is a pain to apply because of the curvature of the bumper. I would suggest going down to your dealer with some baking paper and making a template first. I wish dealers would have the template that they have at the factory. It would make our lives a lot easier.
Good luck with it.

Here is a picture I sent to the body shop that messed up my lettering after a paint shop. Original above, their work below. (To their defense, Porsche does ship their $$$ letters neither pre-positioned on a strip nor with a paper template or instructions or anything like that.)
From my measurements, it's pretty simple:
HTH.
From my measurements, it's pretty simple:
- The "P O R S C H E" base line is the middle of the taillight if you have a line below. Take a painter's tape as a guide as suggested above
- The "S" in "P O R S C H E" is centered
- All letters in "P O R S C H E" have the same width and are spaced 1:1
- The "991 Carrera S" (or whatever your string is) is a bit trickier. Essentially, make sure it kind of matches the line height in the picture and is centered overall. Make also sure that the "S" reaches below the baseline
- I think Porsche's spacing is actually poor here from a typography perspectiv--the "911" seems almost always too high and too far from the "Carrera"

Pete,
I've done this because my lettering was so close together, it looked like a Dodge Caravan!!
It wasn't too hard, you just need tape and lot of patience.
The letters do follow the upper contours of the car.
I got a small T-square and ran a bunch of lines for each letter perpendicular to the contours. These line looked something like this / | | | \
I then measured the same distance on each line (starting with the "S") from just underneath the spoiler seam to the top of the letter. The end result was a very slight dip that occurred at the "S" with the "P" and "E" being very slightly higher.
The spacing between the letters is more or less the width of each letter.
If you hold a flashlight at angle, do you see where the letters used to be?
I'm traveling this week, but can send exact dimensions over the weekend.
Good luck...
