Why Opt for Spacers?

I'm considering ordering a 2013 Carrera base and note that there are 5mm wheel spacers offered for $490. That adds 2/10ths of an inch outward to the wheels. Is that even noticeable? It seems like a lot of money for little visible gain. Am I missing something?

It gives a nicer stance to the car especially on a lowered suspension by filling out the wheel well a bit.

It's even more ridiculous, given better quality spacers can be had for $100.

^ This. Go aftermarket if you are thinking about spacers.

yeah, try RSS.

the only thing that give me pause is the potential for road rash on the painted area behind the rear wheels.

I have a base Carrera with 20" wheels and I put 7mm spacers on the rear only. No problem with rash.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. It's amazing how Porsche gouges on options. The same options on the Cayman cost less than on the Carrera because they can get it. Too bad the Cayman seat is just too small for my big butt!

another option is to go w/ wider tires. SInce you have a base you have a lot of room.

Did you have to buy new lug bolts to use the 7mm spacers? If you used the original bolts, are you at all concerned that you might not have enough thread bolted into the hub (7mm less), especially if tracked or autocrossed?

I just put on OEM 5mm spacers on my 991. While the difference is subtle it is still significant. I love the way the 5mm spacers look on the car. The body seemed to overpower the 20s in the sense they seemed like they were to inset into the car and not flush enough with the body. My only concern is that the cars tracking at speed seems to be significantly increased. I found myself correcting the steering much more then before spacers. for this reason alone I would not suggest bigger than 5 mm in the front.

I put 7mm longer longer lug bolts to go with the 7mm spacers. Even with the factory 5mm spacers you have to use longer lugs. I did not put spacers on the front as I didn't want tracking problems or the rash on the side of the car.

150 is about right for the whole kit with bolts.

Got pics? Sounds like that would look fantastic.

It does! I will take some when the sun is out tomorrow. I washed my car today. Noticed some rash on the edge(inside the rear wheel well). There are so many construction right now in Chicago, too many little rubble on the streets.
I wonder if it will make a difference if the spacer is a little less, because 5 or 7mm less really isn't that much and probably will still cause the same issue, inevitably.

Anybody know what it would cost to have this installed (ballpark)? I'm the least auto-mechanically inclined person I know.
