991 Base moves A LOT in gusty crosswinds

I love my 991 base C2, but compared to my 996TT, it really moves around side to side when I am in gusty crosswinds. Anyone else have a similar problem? Would H&R springs help this?

Yes, I noticed that too on one occasion. Don't know if lowering will make much difference though.

I haven't noticed it but I don't get bad winds where I live. I would imagine lowering it to help though, just not by much.

Or maybe it has something to do with a spoiler, since you had one on your TT I'm assuming.

As you can imagine, we get really gusty winds in Texas and I haven't noticed it. Do you have 20" wheels?

I have noticed it as well. I too wondered if it was do to too much air lift from under the car.

Do you have PASM? And which wheels/tires?

I noticed that too. I thought my lug nuts were loose. I raised the rear spoiler and lowered it and it felt the same

Yes, I have the 20" wheels and standard suspension. It is most noticeable around 80 MPH on a high unprotected bridge. slower or faster speeds seem to be a little better. I also tried moving the rear spoiler up and down and didn't notice any difference. You guys think lower springs might help it?

I have pasm and 20" wheels. So it's safe to say lowering a little bit, like from your base suspension to my pasm height, doesn't make it disappear !
Any Spasm guys having the same ?

Have not felt this in mine. PASM with 20" wheels. The amount that you will be able to lower the car will probably not make a noticable difference.

Keep in mind that your 996TT was all wheel drive, that makes a HUGE difference. Lowering the car will help a little, but the 911 feels a little busy at high speeds regardless of crosswinds. Do you have your factory alignment? If yes, I'd do another one, it won't help with crosswinds, but it will eliminate a potential different issue that might have been compounded by the winds.

I have Sport PASM and 20s on my Carrera S and have felt no particular over sensitivity to crosswinds at any speed.

I would guess that the 4Wd, rubber and the suspension settings of your previous car are far more likely to account for the difference you feel than ride hight or body design at any speed below where the aero design has significant effects, eg ~90 mph.

Agree.
The 991 (I have the C2S) is the most cross-wind sensitive car I have ever owned and I'm including my Hilux double-cab 4x4 in that list (which would now occupy the second slot in that list).
But it's not a problem, it realy does not phase me at all...

I can't wait for the guys that have this problem to tell us if it went away when they put on Michelins.

Methinks a little bit of this issue is that the 991 is the biggest 911 yet. More sheetmetal surface for the wind to catch....but the testimony of it being even more sensitive than a HiLux 4x4 kinda rips that to shreds. Hmmm. Hopefully the tire replacement might help.

Except the HiLux is really heavy. Perhaps larger car. More surface, yet same weight as the 997 could be causing this?
