Black Paint Causing Issues?

Hi guys. I am considering ordering a black 991 and read in this thread that some owners have been having issues with their black paint. I didn't want to hijack CarreraPete's thread so I thought I'd start a new one. Can those who have been having issues please weigh in. Is this a pretty "common" occurrence or is this pretty much an anomaly? I know black is a difficult color to keep looking clean all the time, but what other "issues" are there with black?

Thanks,
Keith

The paint on these cars seems to be notoriously soft when compared to previous models. Some have also addressed the malleable nature of some of the body panels (all in the name of weight savings).

Other than the thread you referenced, I have not read of any specific issues with Black other than it being ruthless at showing any imperfections, and being a royal pain to keep clean.

If you are concerned, you can always invest in a Clearbra (whose technology has come a long way) and have the added peace of mind.

Mine is black, not garaged.
Just clear bra the front, and use a sealant on the rest. Get a great detailer to do the sealant, and have it looked after once a year. You will be fine.

Nothing is sexier then a black car...when its clean, LOL.

+1, Basalt Black is a little more forgiving. Mine is also black and not garaged. Looks awesome for the 1st minutes after being hand washed

Hi, Keith. Here's my black car right after I'd corrected the dealer's brutal prep:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ain-clean.html

Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. I thought some of the naysayers on that thread were ribbing me, but evidently they weren't. I didn't mind the dust that formed within twenty minutes of cleaning, or the water spotting, which I'd solved with the deionizer ... it was the swirl marks that tortured me. The car might've looked great in the garage, but once I pulled it outside into the sun, it was swirl city: they almost seemed to grow by themselves. LOL

Again, the paint on my car was extremely soft for some reason and that may not be the case with other black cars.

An advantage of Black is Black is Black same color if it is a Toyota or a Porsche so it is easy to touch up if you have the skills and patience. Of course I'm talking about solid Black only.

Sorry. Please learn about paint and automobile manufacturers.

Thanks.

CarreraPete, I've had pretty good success keeping the swirls at bay using the 2 bucket wash method and a foam cannon to presoak. Probably also helps that more than 50% of the painted surfaces are covered in XPel Ultimate.

Adding the X-pel clear protective over a perfectly detailed car probably is the way to go with black.

I wonder if the permanent Opti-coat 2.0 would also help, as it is like adding a thick clear coat.

Thanks for all of the posts everyone! I think the hardest part of any 911 decision is the color choice!

CarreraPete, time to change your avatar.

I didn't have a good experience with Opti-Coat on my Cayenne. IMHO it wasn't worth the expense.

Can you elaborate?

I have my "pure" black on order. Only a little worried about swirls because it will be a part time car. Maybe 3 or 4k a year in miles.
