tire bulging after pot hole

car is 1 week old, I have only put on about 300 miles and driven less than a dozen times. today coming home from dinner with the family i hit a fricken pot hole. car drives fine...no alignment issue and no rim damage, just a few scratches on the bottom side of bumper, but i've got a bulging side wall.

i have the 19" goodyear f1 235/40/19 on the front...do u think this will be covered under warranty from the manufacturer?

i did not buy the wheel/tire hazard warranty at the time of purchase...do u think since it has only been a wk i can buy from the dealer?

i bought some h&r springs to lower the car in a few wks...maybe it is not a good idea with the roads in washington and the way i drive.

i can't believe this...

This is a common occurrence with low profile tires. Your dealer might in good faith sell you a replacement tire at their cost. Unfortunately, manufacturer 's warranty doesn't cover damaged sidewalls.

Try a good independent shop also, always much cheaper then the dealer.

Also - you'll want to get that fixed ASAP, the next step is a blow out and that is no fun.

Look up the current price at Tire Rack and take that price to Discount Tire for them to match it. It will take a day or two to get it in. Tire Rack also has a warranty you can buy that's cheap. You might be able to get Discount Tire to match that price also.

I had a similar problem with my Stradale. The tire was replaced by the dealer at no charge-good faith.

What pothole? I didn't see a pot hole.

Did you actually stop the car and inspect the wheel and tire immediately after you allegedly hit a pot hole? I doubt it. Looks like the tire just failed and such failure is a warranty covered event. Take it to the dealer.

Tire Bulge

I had the same issue but dealer didn't buy any story about defective tires. Had a buy a new one. Dealer's prices are competitive with Tire Rack.

At least you didn't have a damaged rim, that would be much worse.

I think Studlee was referring to buying Tire Hazard insurance from the dealer (after the fact) and not necessarily the tire itself.

Count yourself lucky it did not blow out and that the tires are low mileage, so that when replace the tire (asap) you only need one.

Lowering the car won't affect the tires any differently the next time you hit a pothole like that, but the undercarriage may damage the pothole.

More seriously, it will cause you to be more cautious and observant and thus it will never happen to you again so lower it and enjoy it to the fullest!

Sounds like a defective tire. The tires on my trusty and elderly Honda van were recently replaced by the vendor as all were "out of round" due to defective belts.

take it back to the dealer, oh and go into your glove box and open and read the warranty provided to you by the tire manufacture before you speak with the dealer...it always helps to show them a photocopy of the warranty with the pertinent parts highlighted in yellow.
