Pirelli Sidewall Bump

I have had my new 991 less than two weeks and already the right rear tire has a bump in the sidewall. I haven't even hit my first pot hole yet! LOL Dealer says they will look at it. I'm sure they will try to convince me to buy wheel/tire insurance and buy a new rear tire!

UPDATE.....they split the cost of the tire in half and I purchased wheel and tire insurance. At least I dont have to worry about this again for 5 years.

Why did they make you pay half? You only had the car 2 weeks and assume you did not abuse it within that 2 week period. Sounds to me like a tire defect and should have been covered by the tire company. I don't know, but it doesn't sound like you were at fault at all and you should not have had to have paid anything.

I agree that they should not make me pay anything! their answer to me was that the car was inspected upon delivery and the bump was not there so they assume I hit a pothole or some other road hazard. I am actually going to the dealer in an hour to discuss and pay for whatever gets me back on the road. I cant think of any other argument to make.

I think I would have to raise hell with them if in fact I hadn't hit something unusual.

I spent 2 hrs going back and forth with the dealer and in the end, I will have to split the cost of a new rear tire today. (and I purchased the wheel/tire insurance policy yesterday $1394) Somewhere around $225. Maybe its just my dealership but I feel that they don't necessarily care about me as a customer. Spend 100K on a car, I figured I would have a more appreciative attitude. Make me feel like they value my business. I hope this will be the only money I spend there until I need my first service.

Sorry to come in so late on this but the Pirelli warranty book says that they pay for the tire within one year or the first 2/32" tread use if it was not caused by a road hazard. There's a warranty registration card in the front of the Pirelli warranty book. The tire is supposed to be presented to any Pirelli dealer. Further info at 1-800-636-0583. Also just for reference, I paid $1250 for my 5 year wheel / tire warranty from the dealer and I have the Carrera S 20" wheels on my base Carrera.

thank you Chuck! I'll call them. The price I paid was actually $1300 (still more than you) the rest was tax. Still feeling unappreciated from these guys! Thanks again

Time to find a new dealer.

Over the past 33 years, if any client is unhappy with my work, and my work was efficient and effective, that is, the work was professionally performed to a high standard, I tell that unhappy client (more often than not, a nutcase) to pay what they want to pay, but not to ever return for any future work. It's rare but it has happened and each time the client tries to retain us for other work and we refuse the new work.

I cannot imagine ever refusing a reasonable request from a client if we had screwed up (we've been lucky and we haven't screwed up yet so it has not happened). They obviously made you paid the wholesale price of the tire. That they could not suck it up for $225 says something about them.

My dealer provided a low estimate to install a PSE, they did not understand that the car was a C2 and required extensive wiring which took a long time to do. They stuck by their price and did not charge me a penny more. They were entitled to tell me and show me the difference and I am appreciative. I have sent them a bunch of new customers.

Again, it's time for you to move on because they obviously don't give a sh&t about you. and by the way, they made money on the insurance policy they sold to you yesterday.

Compukidd:
I was really more concerned with you having to pay half for the tire. Perhaps the dealer is not an official Pirelli dealer.

Thank you guys for all your posts. I felt the same way about them just eating the lousy couple hundred dollars for the tire after owning the car for only 2 weeks.
