Just had car tuned!!! Wow!!

Got a call from the Fabspeed guys out of the blue yesterday to ask me if I would be interested in having my car tuned and dynoed today as they had some UK based tuners in town for the day.

I took the car down this morning and the guys from the UK walked me through what they were going to do. It is basically a reflash of the ecu to improve the throttle mapping and the low and mid end power range. They plugged their laptop into the obdII port and remapped the power delivery curve. It took them 10 mins.

The end result is very noticeable when driving, with more torque in the low and mid range, from 2k rpm onwards. Prior to reflash, the car did not feel like it was really moving until over 5k rpm. Now, the throttle response is immediate and car pulls strongly from start.

The tuners are claiming an increase of 25bhp but will know when I have the car dynoed next week to see the change in power band.

The car does feel a lot more sporty, ESP in the lower rev range. Was always disappointed with low and mid range torque but not any more!

I have been modding cars for over 20 years, worked with several specialist tuners and most of the time, its just as you experience, the throttle response from a tune that most ppl feel. Hence why Im so skeptical about tunes now.

You should also get a AFR with the dyno because many tuners can't get it right, especially at the top end, and the ECU can only adjust so far.

The tune was done by the technical director of Viezu, a UK based tuner. Www.viezu.com.

25 hp or not, I think the improvement in responsiveness down the power band is worth the price of admission. Very happy with my tune as well.

I am surprised you didn't get a call. Give David a call. It's a quick job and I think the UK guys showed them what to do with their product and how to map it.

I would take the ECU out of my 991S and fly over there for a reflash if that will give me an improvement in responsiveness in the low rev range.

My understanding is that they can send you a package and instructions on the reflash. I would call Fabspeed or the US agent for Viezu, German Motorsports in Miami and ask them how they can do it for you. If it is just a DIY reflash with instructions, my wife is in SP every 2 weeks and she can bring it down for you from the US.

Dux,
As I usually only drive it in Sport plus mode, my observations were based on Sport Plus.
