Cold engine noises and other annoyances
I took factory delivery of my 991 C2 7MT over the summer and the car ran perfectly in Europe. Once received stateside, a few things have bothered me:
1) passenger side window needs adjustment. it keeps thinking it hasn't reached the top when it has and then proceed to engage pinch protection and goes back down halfway.
2) still under 2k miles, so I try to upshift around 4k rpm. When I depress the clutch above 3k rpm, sometimes I hear a metallic engine fluttering sound.
3) When I start from 1st gear, I can hear a hum until I fully release the clutch
4) when the engine is cold there is frequently a clicking noise. I have an audio file of a recent recording on a morning start after I was away for a week. Usually it's not as loud or complex of a noise (more of a simple click). 6speedonline wouldn't let me upload the .MP3 file. any suggestions on how to share?
Could the cold engine click noises be caused by the lower octane fuel in USA? Any ideas on any of them? I'd like to avoid taking it back to the dealer. All are annoyances and not major, but still...

when im shifting at higher rpms. it almost sounds as if this is the noise that gives the pse exhaust that burbling sound, but i dont have pse exhaust. i'll drive it around and see at what rpm and report back

I get a metalic sound with rapid acceleration on-throttle.
I suspect the exhaust is thin walled and vibrates a lot.
or
Something is loose and moving around.
I plan to schedule a dealer visit to have them tighten/adjust the exhaust.

I did notice the metallic fluttering sound on my early 2013 991S manual. I had traded it in for my latest 991S manual which is a May build (don't ask) and, although I do hear the fluttering sound at times, it's not as pronounced as it was on the first car.
I had also corrected the window problem by following the information in the provided link.
I tend to believe that the fluttering sound may be coming from the exhaust system. I did notice that the exhaust note became louder when I reached approximately 1800 miles on the clock.

I tried rev'ing the engine in neutral and I never hear the metallic fluttering sound, so I'd guess it isn't the exhaust. I hear the sound only when I [ress down on the clutch with the RPM above a certain level.
You guys sure the metallic fluttering sound isn't pre-detonation? Looking at the last response it wouldn't happen in that case (revving in Neutral), only likely under acceleration in gear and moving.
Just thinking out loud on this one.

3) I hear the humming noise on cold starts. After about 20-30 seconds, the 1st-gear hum goes away. I've been in another 991 from the factory that did this on a cold start.
4) Been told that this is *somewhat* normal for our engines, especially on cold starts. With the lifters being positioned as they are, the engine is noisy until the block/oil heats up. I know exactly what you're talking about… it's a very clear, ticking sound. You may want to have the dealer check it out if it's extremely loud.
I don't think so. I'm pretty sure it is not pre-detonation.
