BOSE adequate for a 991S Cabrio??
BOSE adequate for a 991S Cabrio??
While I like good music as much as the next guy, I was hoping to be able to take the 3K saved from not optioning Burmester and going with Bose to get PSE. I do occasionally take long trips and have a fairly long commute, listen to a few CDs, Sat Radio etc. Not particularly an audiophile.
Will the Bose be "good enough" for my Cabrio??

I have the Bose and it's just okay. Like others here, I find I'm rarely listening to the radio as the PSE exhaust is just too good. That being said, I'm ordering the Burmeister on a Turbo Cab build now. Also, the Burmeister is standard on the new Mercedes S Class FYI.
I have the B & O upgrade on the GL and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. This is what moved me to upgrade to the Burmeister

Honestly, when I have the Bose up, I miss the engine sport exhaust burbles. With the cabrio, it's especially wonderful to listen to the engine. It's an eternal struggle on this end: Tiesto or the engine? The sport exhaust usually wins. It's just that good on these cars.
I think the Bose sucks but is good enough. I do listen to it a lot and with high quality music but if I want a real nice sound experience I listen at home. A $20,000 car audio is not going to compare to what I have at home.
I bought the PSE and listen to it and the base sound system.
I stream music and podcasts from my IPhone.
It's a car not an audiophile sound chamber.

Adequate is the right word. My 996 with Bose sounded better. I'm convinced they dialed it back to sell more Burmester. Worse sounding Bose product I have owned.

You really need to go listen to it and drive with it on. Everyone has a different set of ears. I know for me, I couldn't deal with it so I went aftermarket. Yesterday I got a loaner Cayenne with the Bose and I'm so glad I got rid of it in my car.
See link for placement of Bose speakers in the 991

I have the Bose in my coupe and I think it is fine considering I listen to talk radio and mostly want to hear the exhaust sounds. Maybe my hearing has probably deteriorated over the years, but even the music sounds pretty nice with the Bose. Since the 991's primary function is to get you from place to place with performance and handling, I think the extra $3K should be dedicated to performance options and not better music sound reproduction from a radio. Just my .02
Fwiw amdave I went thru the same thought pattern when getting my car. I listened to all three options and decided to get the burmester. While I agree that the PSE is intoxicating there are times that I like to listen to great music. Check out a 5.1 DVD on a burmester car and you'll see what I mean. For me it was no brainer for a car in this price range.
i appreciate nice systems but too lazy and cheap to upgrade my past vehicles.
for me the bose in the 991 is the best stock sound system i've ever had, but i have a coupe.
this is not saying much as this is my first $98,000 car.
