Road tripping w/911 blog
I have had my brand new 911 c4s for a few days now. In that time I have accumulated approximately 800 miles. In this thread I will detail my thoughts on the 911 as car in general, and as a road trip vehicle. There will also be photos of the car in various locations.
Yesterday I left Dallas, for Tulsa at about 11am. In the days previous I had mostly hot rodded around the Dallas area. Once hitting 107 on a deserted country road. With the x51 powerkit, the 911 is a powerhouse. Every bit as quick as my former Corvette Z06. Where the 911 really shines though is in its ability to take corners flatly. I do have PDCC. The car not only goes around corners flat, but it seems to react telepathically to my input. It is simply amazing how much fun it is to drive. Having played with the car, I decided to use the 911 more as a touring car for my roughly 4 hour drive to Tulsa. I kept it out of sport mode 90% of the trip and managed an average of 26 mpg. The adaptive cruise control and the 18 way seats made for a very comfortable trip. Not fatigued at all at the end of the day. I have made this same trip dozens of times in the Corvette, and it always had me feeling drained. The Burmester sound system is divine. Listening to a combination of music from my ipod nano, and satellite kept me entertained. A gentleman at a gas station along the way made a fill up take a little longer than usual as he just could not bring himself to stop going on about how beautiful my car was. I felt obliged to share in his enthusiasm. My wife would argue that I talk to much. Especially to strangers, and especially when it is about cars. This car provides a lot to talk about.
This morning I plan to get a flu shot. Visit with a couple business partners in Tulsa, then head towards Eureka Springs Arkansas. I may or may not end up there. My wife and I are taking 8 to 14 days to just hit the open road. Stay tuned for more thoughts and photos.
Attached is a really poor cell phone photo from my room in Tulsa. Most of the future photos will be taken from a better camera. Your thoughts on this blog are appreciated.

Before you get too far into your road trip, have you considered Paint Protection film for your car?
I have my front bumper, hood, fenders done.
They have patterns for the entire rest of the car.
I'm thinking I might also do the roof and rocker panels (maybey even the rear quarters).
Good peace of mind for road tripping.

I agree about the paint protection/clear mask for your car. On my way to Sadalia last Friday, a pickup truck in front of me let go of a couple of clod ***** the size of grape fruits both of which hit the front of my car. The venture Shield by 3M protected the front of my car. The clear mask is marred, but without it the paint would have been damaged. Worse case would have included a nice indentation.
Regarding the 3.8 litre w/X51 wait until you get a few thousand miles on the engine, you're really going to enjoy yourself.

Update: I took a few pictures today on a better camera. A Samsung NX300 to be specific. I like the camera, but for the life of me I can't get it to send pictures to my macbook pro, without the use of wifi (usb connection is working). The wifi in the hotel here in Bentonville, Arkansas is so bad that it is almost unusable. My intention is to upload photos from today and tomorrow, tomorrow night.
Update on the trip in general: The drive from Tulsa to Bentonville, AR was very scenic. Especially the last bit of it. I now have more than 1000 miles on the odometer. I don't have the protection film on my car yet. I wish I did. My wife and I really needed this trip, so I am risking it. I know it is a risk. I have the car fully insured, and beyond that I will need to risk it. No built in radar detector yet. That and the film will be top priorities when I get back to Dallas. I have one of the new Escort Max radar detectors. It works exceedingly well and has saved my butt a few times in the last few days.
The Porsche has behaved wonderfully. Extremely fun to drive and very comfortable. Tomorrow should be phenomenal as we will be traveling in to Ozark country. I know the area to be beautiful from many rides over the years on my Harley.
Please excuse the poorer than usual grammar. Very tired. Thank you for reading.

I doubt I will be back by then. I am up for meeting you sometime in the near future. I'll let you know when I am back. I am up for any excuse to drive, and to talk Porsches. I am self employed and can usually adjust my schedule very easily.
I can easily see why that happened ! Your car simply IS beautifull !
