Road tripping w/911 blog
I am in Eureka Springs, Arkansas again this trip. This time for the Porsche Palooza. Registered. Will be doing a drive tomorrow, the parade and then the car show. If you are in town, please look for me at one of these.
The drive to Eureka Springs was incredible. There are roads around here that rival the Tail of the Dragon On one such road I passed a small building that said Wilson Combat. For those that don't know, Wilson Combat makes exceptional 1911 pistols. I didn't know if they had a show room or not, but I turn back and went on in. They have a very small display of accessories. They immediately offered to show me some pistols, that they would have to get from their vault. All the pistols they had were waiting on payment from customers. Their waiting list on a new one is 12 to 24 months. After seeing what they had to offer I was asked to show off my 911. Yeah, like I am going to turn down the opportunity to talk about my car. After showing off my car, the guy told me of a fantastic back way to get in to Eureka Springs. A local favorite road. It was a blast. One of many incredible drives I have had in Arkansas in the last 2 days.
The 911 has not failed to amaze me. I now have over 4200 miles on the odometer. I swear it is louder today than it was yesterday. The PSE has gotten to a point where it is almost difficult to talk over at times. Which by the way is awesome! The power seems to be increasing as I add the miles. Hard to know if it really is or not. It sure as hell feels like it is. The PDK transmission is nothing short of miraculous. It is amazing how much you are able to focus on other aspects of driving, when shifting becomes so effortless.
The wife commented last night about how comfortable the seats and seat belts were. The comment was made after she attempted to get out with out unbuckling the seat belt. She had forgotten that she was even wearing it. I have done the same.
One thing to note that could be taken as positive or negative: The C4S is almost impossible to drift even with traction control turned off. The car just has so much grip, that it stays firmly planted in even the most drastic of conditions. This makes the car much safer to drive at high speeds. If you want a car to drift through corners though, you may want to consider a different car.
Another note on safety: In the 4000 plus miles of this trip, we have had 3 different deer run directly in front of the car. With any lesser car, I am convinced that I would have hit at least one of them. We have also had a few occasions to swiftly dodge a stationary item in the road. The car has been able to handle these sudden situations in a far superior manor than any other car I have driven.
PDCC: On a few occasions this trip I have tried to drive for a bit with it turned off. The effect was to feel mildly motion sick after a while. The car is just that much more stable with it turned on. This is something that my wife has noticed too. I don't think we would have enjoyed our trip half as much if we didn't have this optioned on the car. Keep in mind, I am not prone to motion sickness. Also keep in mind that this is only an issue during extremely aggressive driving on winding roads, with the pdcc off. Other may not have the same experience.
Turning off pasm does not seem to have any negative effect to my enjoyment of the drive on dry roads.
Adaptive Cruise Control is worth every single cent! Probably the best option you can buy (after pdcc) if you are going to go on road trips. I actually use it more though while driving through town. It will bring the car down to a complete stop. I have it on my Jeep SRT8 as well. The Porsche is better in this regard.
My wife and I are staying in a bed and breakfast that has completely useless wifi. I am tethering to my cell phone to post this. For this reason, I will not be uploading any pictures tonight. Possibly not the whole weekend. I may upload some more on Monday night when I am back in Dallas.

Hi Joe- I enjoyed visiting with you after the autocross at Palooza. Such a stunning car, definatley one of my favorites at the event. That's what it was all about, enjoying the weekend with fellow enthusiasts. Glad to hear Porsche pulled you away from Corvette. I predict there's no going back.

Such a great time for you! It is so filling to read about your trip and the discussion's you have with your wife about the 911. I look to my inbox to see if either you or someone has posted on your thread and it's the first place i go. It is truly a fascinating Blog. I don't think it would have been as memorable or as spectacular with just an ordinary car. (insert any other car here...)
Your trip is compounded with triple fun due to not only the destinations, but the drive, as well as the 911 itself.
One of the definition's I found in a biblical sense is:
to see, discern, of the bodily eye
with the bodily eye: to be possessed of sight, have the power of seeing
perceive by the use of the eyes: to see, look descry
to turn the eyes to anything: to look at, look upon, gaze at
to turn the thoughts or direct the mind to a thing, to consider, contemplate, to look at, to weigh carefully, examine in a geographical sense of places, mountains, buildings, etc. turning towards any quarter, as it were, facing it. Kinda silly, but it is telling...
I have been saving up, bypassing lesser cars, like BMW's, Mercedes, to one day have the ultimate Sports Car/Touring car. The 991 911 has won so many Driver's Car awards and has been touted as the best of the best almost every single time it is reviewed, and now with your addition to a lovely touring vehicle has sealed the deal in my mind.
The unfortunate thing is that I was trying to slip by with a Base Carerra with PASM, PDK, 19" Wheels, and now after reading this thread I may have to go with C4s, with 20", and PDCC, as well as another 50K in options...lol
Thanks a lot Joe!
