of course placed the order and then thought about mounting. Here in Calif. the windshield suction cups are illegal so I ordered a unit to mount under the rear view mirror.

also just saw a direct wire power option called mirror tap. Its a short wire for the 9500ix that gets plugged into your mirror's power. Does anyone have this in place? do you recommend?

 

The problem with mirror tap is there is no exposed wiring plug on the Porsche rearview mirror, that pesky high level Porsche build quality. I had a 2013 Shelby GT500 and the Mirror Tap worked great since there was a visible plug to tap into.

Most P owners have a switched power wire run to the fusebox in the driver or passenger footwell, up along the a pillar, and under the headliner to the rearview mirror. I can have this done at my local P dealer for about $150. Some DIYers on the forum have done it themselves.

I have a 911 TTS, but I think the wiring would be the same for a turbo vs a 911. I don't see why we can't pop the plastic piece behind the actual mirror and tap in there, but I have not found a single thread on how to do it in a 991. I even posted a thread in the 997 TTS forum about it and no one has answered on how to do it. I am a bit remiss to just tear into the mirror blind without some prior guidance.

 

The 9500iX an outstanding detector. I've had 2 of them.

It might be on sale because they've come out with a new one, the MAX, with a multicolor OLED display. Maybe they want to liquidate their remaining 9500iX inventory?

I recently bought a MAX and I'm VERY impressed, but the 9500iX is a great detector.

What 991TurboS says is correct. Nothing to tap into on the mirror, so I ran the wire up in the headliner and down the A pillar. You can plug it in by the passenger side leg socket. Here is a pic. I have the same mirror mount, so it will work. I did improvise it a little so that the detector extends more towards the windshield.
