Manual shifting in 991 vs 997

Ok, the dead horse of manual vs PDK has been beaten into oblivion...
Question: After selling my 997 c4S and getting a Panny 4S, I'm thinking about going into a 991. The placement/set up of the stick shift for manual shifts seems much different than the 997's. "closer to the steeing wheel" they say.
How does it compare comfort/effiency wise in the 991 vs the 997?
It seems further up the console, therefore, more of a "reach". (I haven't gotten around to test driving it yet, but everyone's opinion would be interesting).
thanks!

I presume that you are talking about manual transmission 991 vs 997. The reach on the 991 is ergonomically easier/more natural than that of the 997. In my opinion, the MT on the 991 is so much more refined and smoother almost to the point of no comparison.

Sounds good! Certainly the smooth look of the cabrio roof in the 991 looks waaaay nicer than the older 997 models, so it stands to reason that the tranny operation would be that much better as well.

I went from a 997.1 C2S Cab Manual to a 991 C2S Cab PDK. I never thought I would go for a PDK car but very happy with my decision. Sport Chrono is a must have option and selecting Sport plus and manual shifts is a blast. I would also make sure you get the sport design steering wheel with true paddle shifters. The buttons on the standard wheel do not lend themselves to spirited driving.

I thought the shifter position was going to be awkward at first. I've never owned a manual car, but I've driven tons of them, and it didn't seem "right."

After the first few minutes of driving the 991, though, my doubts disappeared. It feels just as good, if not better, than the 997's shifter position. It really is ergonomic and within easier reach.

I came from a MT 997 as well. I was initially concerned with the shifter placement in the 991. After minutes of driving, I found the placement to be perfect. The actual shifting experience itself is also much better. Do NOT let this concern you!!

I totally agree with those who have said that the shifter placement is perfect. It does look a bit "off" the first time you see it, but it works out perfectly ergonomically.
