Scratched Steering Wheel

This is annoying, and I'm pretty sure it was there when I got the car a week ago. But it was late at night when I picked up the car and not something I noted. Regardless, the dealer won't replace the wheel but will have a leather repair guy dye it next week. It's on the bottom of the wheel which is at least good. It obviously has texture to it, which is annoying when I turn the wheel. Any experience with dying the leather? Will it be smooth and easily color matched? I wish I wasn't so bothered by these things, but it does affect me.

I had a similar pickup issue. The rear view mirror had a nick on it, but fortunately the sales rep noticed it and documented it. Dealer replaced mirror, no charge.

If you picked up the car last week, you could always note the issues with delivery on your sales survey, if you know what I mean. Those guys seem to take the surveys pretty seriously.

Sux. Looks bad, but I am sure it can be fixed. They can smooth out and fix just about anything nowadays.

Put some leather conditioner in your hand and rub it into the direction of the scratch if it is not too deep the mark should be minimized. If not take a warm rag and press against the leather to soften and repeat the first step.

I would guess that they can get it repaired by fill and dye to your satisfactioin - just ask them to take care not to get the dye on any stitching as the minor color difference from other stitching will be noticable and really annoying!

I will definitely tell them to keep the dye away from the stitiching (though everything is black in my car). I think I'll let them try to fix it before doing anything to it myself. The conditioner trick will probably come in handy as more minor scrapes are probably inevitable.

For what you pays for these cars you should not have to deal with that, but the dealers always have a different aspect, you have signed on the dotted line and taken care of the delivery.

I know stuff like that can sink in and really irritate you so try to not let if annoy you too much, maybe just find a favorite curvy road and wind it out, at least you will forget about it for awhile haha!!

So the dealership had their leather repair guy fix the steering wheel for free. He did a good job. With the flash you can see there is minimal difference in color. However the scratch is at the bottom of the steering wheel. The texture is only slightly rough. As long as it holds, I'm satisfied. PCNA also sent a $250 gift certificate.

That looks great. Glad it worked out and that you got some "icing" on the cake. Enjoy.

great customer service and fix, how did PCNA take note of the issue, did you write to someone or was it done on behalf of the dealership?

I called them hoping they'd change the wheel instead of the fix. Obviously they wanted to try the cheap fix first.

redying the leather is pretty common and should be ok, as long as they don't need to use any filler. Make sure to keep an eye on it as the car wears.
