The one (car) that got away

I am searching for the right 997.2 GT3 and I had a thought about a car that I really wanted. It was the 89-90 VW GTI 16V. Remember the one with the four headlights? It was Alpine White with the Recaro seats, Neuspeed lowered suspension, and window tint. Could not afford it at the time and I was wondering how much it would cost to grab one and make it like the one I had a chance to buy. I owned two mark 4 GTI VR6's and I loved them. Pish-posh, I have GT3 on the brain right now, maybe when I get older? What car do you wish you could find from your past?

1976 lancia beta scorpion, (lancia montecarlo in Europe) I actually owned one for a short time but could not afford the repairs as it was 1995 and I was a poor college student and parts were expensive

I wouldn't mind getting my 04 VW R32 back and putting a stage 2 turbo on it or something like that. It was a lot of fun but needed more power. Couldn't afford it back in my wife's residency days. Hell, we could barely afford the car and my wife reminded me daily haha. On to bigger and better things now I would like to get a two or three year old GT3 RS for the track but those prices are crazy right now.

I know what you are talking about. I used to own an MKII GTI 16V 2.0L. I bought it brand new when I was 19. Had BBS mesh type wheels, recaro seats, and sunroof. Added ABT wing, lowering springs, and Remus exhaust. Car was just awesome.

Back in my college days I was dreaming of a Peugeot 205 GTI but could not afford it:

Before I moved to the US 7 years ago, my daily commuter was a 5 door hatch BMW 1 series with a 2.0d engine. Not a 'dream car', but a compact, practical, economical little car with a nice sporty feel and tons of torque. I would have kept it longer if I had not moved.

BTW the GT3 is itching here too

997 GT3 RS 4.0 or 997 GT2 RS

I should have bought one instead of the Speedster. Oh well, maybe down the road I'll find a nice used one when the prices come down.
