Based on BMWs numbers, the M4 0-60:
Manual 4.1
Auto 3.9
Porsche C2S 0-60:
Manual 4.3
Auto 4.1 (3.9 with sport chrono launch control)
Both are obviously conservative. Car and driver got 3.6s on C2S with PDK and launch control. The two will be neck and neck. BMW engine has way more torque but the rear-engine weight bias will help the C2S jump off the line. Top speed will definitely go to C2S at least because the M4 is electronically limited. But truth is, "who cares"? The C2S will feel more special.

If rear seats is not a deal breaker, the new Corvette appears to be a great alternative to either BMW or Porsche.
I'm not positive but I think the Corvette will out perform M3/M4? I think its on par with 991C2S?
Corvettes are not my cup of tea but I do appreciate that GM is upping the ante and making it better and better every generation.
Personally the reason I like the late model 911s, besides its performance and driving characteristics, is the timeless design and IMO gets better with every new generation (sans 996). I don't see a ton of late model 911s on the road so it does feel special every time I drive it. Every once in awhile when I ride with my wife in her '11 M3 vert, it feels like every other 3 series (yes, even with the top down).
Go figure but she likes our '11 328XiT first, follow by: M3, C4S and finally the R8. I have to admit, the 328XiT is pretty sweet especially after we replaced the run-flats with Michelin Pilot Sports - totally transforms the car and makes it even a better daily driver.
I wish BMW would offer the 3 series wagon with the 6 cylinder turbo engine. If I had to pick one car that I had to live with for the next 20 years and needed additional space, a 335XiT would be it. The closest thing to a 335XiT is the X1 '35

The pros of the M3/4:
-Cheaper
-Numbers (hp and 0-60, basically bragging rights)
-Will get more looks right after coming out, but this will fade soon
-More practical
-You will have the top of the line 3-series vs "base" 911 (this is more an ego thing).
-Technologically (i.e. navigation, apps) more advanced

I agree. Personally I'd rather have the 'base' 911 than the top of the line 3 series.
But the M3/M4 should be great value for the money.

Interesting tread.
Note the M3/4 do not have the option for Active cruise control again (last gen was missing it as well) but gain a boat load of driver aids like heads up display, lane warning etc.
Very limited choice of colors in the M3/4 as well.
Otherwise amazing value for money.

A fully optioned M4 without the carbon ceramics or with is still less than a base 911. And that is a base 911 with zero options.

Yea. I am still considering going the m4 route myself, but I have to test drive it. Right now I don't like the track BMW is heading down. I have driven both the m5 and m6 and hated them. There is zero feel to the road and they are just too heavy. If the m4 is like that too then it won't make a good sports car. BMW is killing the feel in these cars. I think they are just not able to configure the electric steering properly. I'm going the 911 lease route if the m4 is disappointing.
