PDK vs Manual

I know this is a subject that has been beat up. What are the latest thoughts of PDK vs Manual? Is there a difference in resale? Is manual going away?

Take a look at what manufacturers are doing with sports & super cars. Manuals are going away for the most part. IMO a manual car may have greater resale value as production is/will be limited.

And a manual is a great theft deterrent!

One of the most polarizing subjects on Porsche forums. Some people feel so strongly about this and want to defend their choice.

Both are great choices depending on preference.

It has been beaten to death on a few threads in the past. I agree with the above; even though I really enjoy a manual transmission car, it is inevitably a dying breed. The choice may not be there in the future which is going to be a real shame.

I will embrace PDK when I no longer have a choice but I will enjoy my 7 speed MT for now!

A lot of guys (like me) will only buy a manual sports car. Your transmission choice affects the driving experience a lot more than anything else. Everyone is different, but for me the PDK greatly detracts from the fun of driving the car.

99.9% of my driving is on public streets where I'm not concentrating on "finding a driving line", but rather staying in my lane keeping on with traffic or if I'm lucky I get an open expressway and can really accelerate. In all of this a big part of the fun is shifting myself, downshifting, skipping gears, etc. I just find sitting there with foot on the pedal extremely boring. Using flappy paddles with this PDK automatic would be ok for the SUV, but just isn't fun for me.

There are many threads about this exact question.

At the end of the day, it's all about which transmission YOU enjoy driving the most.

Try finding cars that the paddles don't flap.

That may help.

Porsche mutli-function wheel. They don't really "flap" as much as they click.

So they are clicky paddle shifters?

People who want to make it sound bad, will always attempt it...

My latest thought on the subject is that anyone asking will be given a sentence 10 years of hard time driving a CVT for each count of PDK vs Manual thread initiation.

That, and obviously whichever you prefer is better. Not sure about resale, I'd also guess that the MT will end up with a higher resale over time because it's going to be more rare, but who knows. Get what makes you happy when you drive it.
