2015 Targa: First Drive
Wonder if SMARTTOP has a solution for this? With their box you remove speed limitations on the CAB
Targas are a fail. Always have been. Surprised it is one the variants for the 991 to be honest.

Considering how little air circ there is inside my Cab with the top down why would you want the extra weight and the inability to raise/lower the top on the move. I just don't get this. And I had a Classic Targa way back when. My 1988 had a black bar and looked great with the black Fuchs alloys. They still do. At least it won't be noisy like the original Targas

Fail because you can't deploy the top at speed? Really? This is a tough room! I agree that the top should be offered in at least the colors of the cloth tops of the cabs and I agree that some colors do not look great with the silver bar.
Always been a fail? I don't see it that way. I think they look great! JMO!
If I could afford one just now, I would be tempted.

Totally agree. I don't like the look with silver bar either.
I agree with some that Porsche needs to offer the option, to get the Targa bar in matte black or platinum. I also would have prefered that the Targa roof was manually operated. That way they could have made the roof from 2 separate carbon fiber panels like on the 918. They could be offered in a cloth covered version and a painted version.
There's no need for an electrically operated roof. It only adds weight and the possibillity of Porsche's common rattles and failures and since it can't be operated while driving anyway, I don't see any benefits of that roof at all...
I like the looks of the Targa very much.... Curious to drive the car, although I will probably never buy one.

+1 .. that will allow buyers like me that are not into a mix of classic and modern touches to blend it in better with the rest !
Personally, I think there's a lot to like about the new Targa.
1) It's unique as all hell. The 911 has so many versions its out of control, this one really stands out.
2) It looks great. Much better than the cab. There are only a handful of convertibles that look good and the 991 is def not one of them, it looks like a bloated sperm whale swimming backwards.
3) Having an actual bar above your head if the car were to flip.

I think the Targa's design is very nice. I agree with those who have suggested that the bar should be offered in different colors, and I'm confident it will eventually be offered in black and platinum ($1,600 for a painted black bar, anyone?). The weight will be an issue for some buyers, but ultimately I think it will attract enough buyers who want something approximating a convertible feel but that stays truer to the lines of the coupe a bit more. I can't see myself getting one, but I definitely appreciate the design and think it's an awfully nice looking car.
