Weird 991 4S Startup Behavior
Weird 991 4S Startup Behavior
Posting on behalf of a friend:
Car: 2014 991. Manual transmission
Automatic "shut off" feature is off.
Way to initiate:
Best way: Start car from cold. Drive for 5 minutes. Park car for 15 minutes to an hour. Restart car
Other way: Park car in very sunny spot.
Symptom: Car will turn over but not start. After a number of attempts, the car will start up, but when you push in the clutch, it will stall out. It will then try and restart itself. The severity of the "stoppage" is correlated to difficulty of starting (if it takes five minutes to start up the first time, when it stalls, it can take five minutes to restart.) The symptom persists until you turn the car off for about 5 minutes. After that, it starts just perfectly and runs great.
This happens about once a month.

This is something that should immediately be addressed by the dealer. While we all may have an opinion, the dealer can scan it and if they can't fix it, the Lemon Law clock will start.
The clock has started.
Dealer is trying to replicate it but doesn't really have any ideas or heard of it. Hence my post to see if anyone else has encountered this.
My recommendation was to swap out ECU to start, but that becomes just a swapping game.

Not the exact same, but theres a stalling/difficult to start thread.
I think there was an issues with the crank sensor requiring a spacer?
but im surprised there is an issue with a 2014 car.
i forgot the recall, but if you search for the above, you can find it here.

If the dealer can't replicate it then take a video with your cell phone next time it happens so you can show them.
I do this with any problem with my cars so there is no question when I go for service that there is an actual problem.
