GT3 steering program for Carrera?

Someone has reported that they have been told that the GT3 steering program is going to be available to be installed into Carreras. Anyone know any more about this?

Quote:
Yes, I have been told the GT3 steering program will be available for the Carrera. The only difference between the 2 is software.

Don't see how you could do this since GT3 has 4 wheel steering and we have 2 wheel steering.

I understand there are mechanical differences (rear wheel steering being the most obvious one) but since a major part of the difference is software, there has been rumours that a software update can improve the 991 Carrera's steering feel a lot.

+1. Also, some of us already have "enhanced" steering (albeit for other intentions) if the Power Steering + option was selected on build sheet. That option was purely software.

Also, I can't recall specifically, but isn't the rear-steering purely mechanically tied to the front wheel attitude, not so much the software tune? May be purely taking the lead from the front wheels, in other words, and not tied to the power steering control software. Steering "feel" is likely limited to the front. Maybe I am wrong -- I'll have to go back and check on how the 4-wheel steering works on the P-cars....

The rear wheels turn in different direction depending on road speed. So I would guess the linkage is more than mechanical.

If Porsche can physically make your existing (fixed) rear wheels "steer" using software only, then I have a bridge to sell all of you. Heck, I'll even throw in some rocking-horse manure..

Software cannot defy the first law of physics, so something would have to be physically changed on your rear axle.

It would be nice to get the GT3 steering program.
I think everyone understands that it first will need to be adapted for use in a Carrera and that it wont add rear steering.
To get more feel, they mostly need to dial down the assist levels.

I''m glad Carreras don't have rear steering.
Imagine if it ever acted up, you could be thrown into a wall or other car.

I think there are two conversations going on and getting confused. Here is what I think is trying to be said.

There are two different aspect of the GT3 steering. The different "feel" of the GT3 steering is software for the front wheels. The rear steering is mechanical. Obviously this cannot be done with just software.

The question is would just a software upgrade to the front wheels make the regular Carrera have the same feel as the 4 wheel steering GT3.

I'm pretty sure the front suspension geometry will also be modified on the GT3, that will also provide feedback.

In that case we should include the front steering as well!
If it acted up.....

The info the Porsche provide about the rear steering is worth a read. I found it very informative.

Not a chance ! My steering feel changes when I change tire pressure a bit.
I can't begin to imagine what differences other suspension, geometry, tire compound and so on make in that equation !
