Ctek - lighter adaptor or directly to battery?
Ctek - lighter adaptor or directly to battery?
Need to buy a Ctek conditioner/charger for 991. I noticed most people use the lighter adaptor. But read somewhere it is better to connect the conditioner directly to the battery leads in order to avoid charging through the car electrics....
- Anyone had a problem from charging through the lighter, please?
- If I am to charge directly to the battery leads, any precaution before I connect the 2 small loops to the battery leads, please? is it a DIY? what happens if I accidentally disconnect one of the car leads of the battery-would this immediately resets all the electronics?
- I know it is ok to pass the ctek wire near the door hinge but if connecting the ctek directly to the battery, is it ok for the wire to press onto the boot seal?
Thank you

I prefer directly to the battery with the quick connector. You will probably need to cut a slit in the loop to install onto the battery bolt, the nuts do not come off. See this link for some help.

I posted this in Rennlist as well.
"With the red/black leads, Porsche advises against hooking the negative cable directly to the battery. There's a marked, designated ground post to use. Apparently hooking to the negative battery terminal can cause some electronic component issues."

There is a big warning sticker on the battery that says to NOT do that. I leave the plastic cover off and just clamp to the positive post on the battery and ground post to the right of the battery. I would have preferred to use the nice pigtail as I have on other cars but did not want to take any chances.
The manual does discuss charging the battery by connecting to the posts on the battery when it is out of the car. There must be some concern about shorts ad Dwayne indicates.
plugged in there. Sometimes I've forgotten to manually turn it off when I
leave the car......
Next morning opening the door it "chirps/powers -up" just like I've turned it on.
Doubtful your charger is doing anything after the socket has gone dead.
Smoker's option console lighter is always active.
In my 2013 C2s this outlet becomes inactive after about 30 Min. Have my V1

Call ctek- they are helpful.
Same with my V1; however my ctek runs thru the conditioning cycle and maintenance of battery; based on input from ctek, the charger is doing exactly what it was designed to accomplish. Simplistic approach- car started right up after approx 3 1/2 months inactivity and it was quite cold this winter. I was told it was important to lock vehicle which I did.

If there's no juice coming out (not live), how can it go the opposite if the circuit is dead?
THX
Would like to hear from any EE or similar to explain this phenomenon!!
