Nope. All you need to do is look at the pictures of a 991.1 and a 991.2 online and compare. Very clearly a different shape and size. Since I saw the 991.2 in person, all I can say is that I can verify that the tape was just covering what was actually there. It wasn't creating an illusion.

I think perhaps they create a fake sticker to resemble a lens that's put over the actual lens that makes it look like the previous gen model to fool people.

 

Yes, that's the whole point. They want to test cars on public roads without letting the cat out of the bag.
