50,000 Mile Report

About 80 miles of warranty left.

I am the first and only owner and acquired it in June 2012. My car is a C2, with PSE, full leather, 20 inch wheels. standard radio and some other stuff that's not worth mentioning.

Maintenance: I changed the oil (0-40 Mobil 1 every time) and filter at 2000 miles, 5,000 miles and every 5k. I also change the oil plug every 10k

I R&R the cabin filters, air filters, wiper blades, and spark plugs as per the maintenance schedule

At 45k /three years I had the coolant drained, flushed and replaced. I would not suggest that you try that at home. It was a long process for the tech

I have 19 inch sottozero tires for winter

The pzero tires were replaced after 28k miles with pss including 305 rears

I purchased tire and wheel insurance. Cost $1250. They already replaced a classic wheel, a tire amd a lost key. Bingo, paid for itself

I have acquired a washing, claying, and waxing fetish. It looks showroom new.

Performance: the car woke up at 20k. I attribute that to a complete break in. Could be my imagination.

Oil consumption - none, nada, not a drop.

Mileage: 24.7 mpg over 49920 miles. Yes, I use an app

Brakes - Porsche paid for rotors and pads at 38000 miles. There were some issues. I paid around $600 to install.

Impressions: this is the greatest car I have ever owned. It's a joy to drive, it's low maintenance, reliable and fun

Dealer: Porsche of Delaware. Alex and drew are car guys and not schm$cks. They get it. They like cars and are always available if there is an issue

Would I buy it again, absolutely

Great write up. It is good to see you did almost all the maintenance with the exception of coolant. I picked mine up just after you but I do not have near the miles. Mine has also worked flawlessly with the exception on hesitation at start.
Thanks...

Nice write up. Good for you on such a great car. I am nearing the 20,000 mark. Don't drive it in the winter so will most likely break 20k next year. Took the original Pzero's off at 10k and put the MPSS on and really love them. Car has been flawless. Had one bad change over valve replaced due to heat issue all under warranty. Other than that nothing to talk about.

I too have become a detailing freak and keep the car showroom worthy. This is my 12th Pcar and so far I would say the best even though I had very few issues with the others. I am waiting for the new 991.2 to arrive and will determine whether I go that route or take mine to 50K.

Will you get an extended warranty.? If I keep mine I am considering it. Continued luck with your car.

It's great you are driving and enjoying your car. Kudos. Many more happy miles and enjoyment. (I love my car too!)

Great job Richard! It's a shame you have to live in your car, but since you like it- oh well!

I got mine the same time a you got yours- 15K, one cooling valve issue. Love it. Best of the 16 for sure.

I have a 993 cab mt also. Love the change of pace once in a while.

Good luck on the next 50K. By that time, I'll know what the 20K power boost is all about. With the PDK I really think I have plenty.

Chuck

Thanks for the comments

At 20k the car seemed to just be more powerful and responsive. It's as if the rings completely seated. Perhaps it's my imagination.

With respect to the plugs and engine air filters, I can't take credit for the work, I used my best tool - my checkbook. I took it to a former Porsche wrench and his shop did the 40k for $600 plus parts I provided from pelican.

I am from Pa too. I am interested in what mechanic you use locally. I'm in the Kennett/West Chester area.

Great to hear it's treating you well and you love it. I'm amazed by your gas mileage, I've been averaging about 17mpg in mine, mostly city though, and I live downtown so tons of idling and acceleration.

visualguy is infamous around these parts
Water in coolant?

What kind of water did they mix in your coolant when they replaced it?

I was shocked to find out that my Porsche dealer uses tap water. I was told that they don't want to spend the money on purified water (de-ionized, distilled, etc.) I then asked around, and it looks like that's the common practice at dealerships. Basically, bring your own unless you want them to use whatever dirty stuff comes out of the water hose at the service bay.

We live in the rural suburbs and there are few traffic control lights and lots of limited access highways.
Recently got 34 mpg on a commute to the city. Got 12 mpg while stuck in traffic returning home
