'15-'16 Carrera S vs 2017 Carrera Base?

I am looking to purchase a CPO 2015-2016 manual transmission Carrera S Coupe or a CPO 2017 Base manual transmission Carrera Coupe. Is the 2015-2016 400 HP S naturally aspirated? I know the 2017 Base is turbocharged, Is there anything to be concerned about in looking at these particular models?

Any opinions or suggestions?

I am in the mid-atlantic region and would prefer to keep my search in the eastern third of the country. Are there any dealers that can be recommended, OR NOT, for purchasing a CPO car?

Thanks for your help

That's a tough one. I had a 991.1 base 3.4L and now a 991.2 base both manuals. The engines are very different (bearing in mind the S and base engines on the 991.1 cars are two peas of the same pod, one has a tick more power but makes it in the same way in the same place on the rev counter).

The new engine is better for most people. It makes boatloads more torque around town. The down sides 1) revving to redline is not quite as rewarding; 2) the sound is not bad but nowhere near as savage as a 991.1 w/PSE; and lastly - get this - the gas mileage is worse on the turbo cars [the whole reason for switching to turbos was for efficiency]. On paper a base 991.2 and S 991.1 are about even on acceleration, but the 991.2 will feel faster more of the time - and for $2k you can get silly amounts of power from aftermarket tuning that just isn't impossible with the 991.1.

They made some small changes to the front track and the gearbox (manual, not sure about PDK) on the 991.2 that are noticeable.

You can't go wrong with either one. As for CPO, not sure. I'd think its more important to have a good relationship with your dealer when it comes to warranty issues.

Good luck,
DRP
