Any converts from 997?
Long story, but got into my first Porsche a year ago, a 05 997 C2S cab. For a number of reasons, I moved into a 07 Targa 4S two months ago. But I am constantly attracted to the 993 TT. Did anyone here start with a 997 and move over to a 993 TT? Any regrets?
One thing that I am attracted to is that the 993 TT doesn't seem to depreciate a much as the newer Porsches since the demand seems to stay very high for this classic. Based on my preliminary look tonight, it appears that most decent ones are in the high 50's to mid 60's in cost. Is this about right?
Are any years considered better than others (other than the 1997 S which is priced out of my range)? Any features/issues one should look for besides good documentation etc?
Thanks for any input, comments, suggestions. In the meantime, I'll continue to enjoy my Targa while I monitor this forum.

I had a 993 went to a 997TT and went back to a moded 993TT with no regrets.
It wasn't about the money it was the fact that after owning 7 air cooled 911's over a 20 year period the 997TT felt more like my BMW than a 911.
My current 993tt puts out 520 HP and 590 Ft Lbs of RS tuning dyno power and I feel it is faster and more fun to drive than the 997TT it replaced.

I agree with Lat. I owned a both a 997GT3 and 993TT last year, but after 6 months decided to keep my 993 and traded the 997. I also traded the 996GT2 before that. Having owned the 993 for about 4 yrs I grew attached to the car more now than ever. Looks, feels, values and heritage of the 993 is what makes it special everytime you drive it. I get more thumbs up from the hard core Porsche guys on the 993 than I ever did on any of my other cars. It's truly is a special breed.
993 is a collector item. Not only does it hold value, it is more limited in quantity.
Only downside with 993 series is that they are growing old and can have things that break due to old age. As for speed, newer is faster, stock-to-stock. What's more important though is that 993 just feel and sound more special.

There were some 2800 993TT sold in North America including the 180 S types.
How do you like your 993 C4 cab?
I have had the cab since 2001, 2nd owner, and it will be the last Porsche I sell. Great car all the time, not a powerhouse with 285 HP but enough for those great drives with the top down. I can tell you that it still does not have a single rattle or squeak and it has 86,000 Km on the odometer.

I started with a 1997 C4S. Then went to a 997 then 997TT. Always missed the 993. 997TT was fast but I had to look down to remind myself I wasn't driving my wife's Audi. Got rid of the 997TT and 3 months ago bought a 993TT with 28,000 miles.
The build quality is exceptional, the driving experience is involving and the car is beautiful and will likely hold its value. I have no desire to sell this car and will drive it forever.

I went from a 996 cab to a 997TT and then added a 993TT. The 993TT is the pinnacle of Porsche styling and "feel" I won't be getting rid of the 997TT, and having both is quite a privilege for me.
I bought a new 2005 996TSCab, modded it to 650-700HP (EVOMS GT700), then added the 1997 993TT, and modded it to about 650HP (Protosport 3.8L), with plans this winter to go up to 700HP. The 993TT now is my favorite car, the 996TSCab is fun, but feels and is larger than the 993TT, as well as less lively than the 993TT, even though both the 996 and 993 are sick fast.
I got into porsches with the 996 generation. Had carrera and TT. Didn't like the 997 much. I would like to find a low mileage 993TT without any modifications. Alas the ones with the options I want aren't for sale.

no problem LAT, that was from a used Porsche dealership in Japan call "Rabbit Corporation", whom also produce the 997 GT3 kit for the 993.
you can find their website HERE, they stock a lot of 993 parts too (other than aero, they also make suspension parts such as coilover, strut bar..etc to performance parts such as the exhaust system, cams...etc, and as well as other dress-up parts such as the aluminum gauge rings, shift *****, aluminum pedal kits..etc).
you are welcome to PM me if you are interested in them or need help to source these parts.
