993 Billet Side Plates, Why Get Them?

California Motorsports has a replacement for the factory cast magnesium plate known to be problematic with its very own CMS Billet Plate. The original magnesium plate where known to crack, have loose or out of round bearing bores or even worn out shift shaft provisions. CMS saw this flaw and like many of there projects, took it an re-engineered it to a better more quality design that billet gives.

From CMS, The benefits to upgrading to a billet side plate are as follows:

1. Billet side plates don’t flex like cast ones do. So they hold critical tolerances better under load. I have never seen a broken billet cover but I have seen plenty of broken cast ones. When the side cover fails, the ring and pinion is often damaged. A strengthened side plate helps keep the differential where it’s supposed to be under load.

2. Our versions are drilled on the inside to promote addl lubrication to the diff bearing.

3. On our turbo versions of side plates, we incorporate a “thrust bolt”, that when adjusted against the backside of ring gear, will help prevent it from deflecting or “walking”.

4. Our 915 side plate allows for use of the larger turbo bearing

Additionally our side plates are made with both strength and lightweight in mind. Our newest G50 side plates weigh only 3.5 lbs! The factory one is not that much lighter. These are really a must for tuned cars!
